Who did Iowa beat though last season?

I'll tell you who they beat.......nobody.

I watched a special last year on ESPN on how they select teams for the tournament. They said it actually has nothing to do with total wins, and everything to do with who you have wins and losses against.

I mean, you have to remember.....Iowa was 9-9 in Conference play. They were on the bubble, but didn't have any impressive wins.

Minnesota was 8-10 and made it in easily as an 11 seed. It's because they had a few quality wins.

Iowa's Feb 23rd loss @ Nebraska last year is most likely what eliminated them from the tourney.

I know RPI is huge in selection, but you still need that 20 wins.

Trust me, I know where you're coming from.

We have a lot of losses on our resume already. What we do have going for us, however, is the fact that we have faced a gauntlet of a schedule.

Teams like Iowa last year who played a bunch of crappy teams in the OOC got beat up in the end because of it.

Yea the loss to Nebraska last year was a HUGE blow for Iowa's resume at that point. No doubt

Minnesota actually finished the season with 3 wins over teams ranked in the top 25 in the RPI last season.

Iowa finished with 1 win over a top 25 team in the RPI.

Nebraska already has 2 this season. There is always a chance, sir.

Well yeah. NU isn't mathematically eliminated yet, but let's keep it real.

Find me 10 more wins (minimum).

I'm hoping for 6 or 7.

I seriously believe going 10-8 in the Big 10 gets you into the NCAA Tournament.

They're smart enough to know which Conference is the best in the country. If we get 8 more wins, we're in.

I'm calling it right now though........Nebraska beats Indiana at home this Thursday and then shocks the world by beating Michigan on the road next Wednesday.

Nebraska will then be on the map and then some.

The only teams that made the dance last season with less than 20 wins were Harvard (19-9), Liberty (15-20), and North Carolina A&T (19-16). They were all Automatic bids for winning their Conference tournaments.

20 win teams that got in.

James Madison (20-14).... Automatic
Long Island (20-13)......... Automatic
Iona (20-13)................... Automatic
Western Kentucky (20-15) Automatic

California (20-11). At-Large
Minnesota (20-12) At-Large
Oklahoma (20-11) At-Large
Villanova (20-13). At Large

Nobody got in At-Large with less than 20 wins.

I know sir.

However, Nebraska did something rather unorthodox this season......they set up a brutal OOC schedule which usually only higher ranked teams get themselves into.

Teams that usually finish with 20 or 21 wins are teams like Nebraska is this season. It's just that those teams always get about 12 wins in the OOC and then grab 9 more in Conference play.

Our OOC schedule is going to come back to help us out big time.

Someone should go back and look through last year's bracket and find out what the teams in-Conference records were as opposed to their complete records. I would bet that there are a good amount of teams that were .500 or slightly worse/better that made it in.

I believe that plays more of a hand in the decision than the total record does, based on what I heard from the experts last year on that ESPN special.

Also, don't forget that the actual field is now 68 teams instead of 64.

Also, in 2011 thar were 5 teams that made it in as At-Larges with less than 20 wins. Those were:

Tennessee, Penn State, USC, Illinois, Michigan State.

Notice anything interesting about that list?

3 of them are from theeeeee Big 10

California (20-11). At-Large (12-6 in the PAC)
Minnesota (20-12) At-Large (8-10 in the Big 10)
Oklahoma (20-11) At-Large (11-7 in the Big XII)
Villanova (20-13). At Large (10-8 in the Big East)

Is that what you're talking about?

I can tell ye just picked a small sample pool. Must have looked at who the bubble teams were and went from there.

There are a ton of teams in the Tourney every year who have .500 or slightly better records.

I love Husker Football. I guarantee that there is nobody here or anywhere that likes it more than I do. I'm sure some of ye like it as much as I do....but nobody likes it more than me.

I like Husker Basketball just as much. I couldn't even sleep the other night after the loss to Penn State.

I will also say this.....

If we make the NIT this year and get some home court advantage........we very well could run deep into that tournament.

I just went with the At-Large teams with 20 wins.
