Cap floor just raised to 180

Saw a rumor that the NFL is trying to get the new TV deal done early and theres a chance the cap for this year is over 200 million if they can get it done in time.

Looking into my crystal ball signing Golladay(Tag or otherwise) or Okwara would screw us over for the next few years cash wise. If they do that its just more of the same and we'll be calling for their heads by the end of the 22 season or sooner, but will probably have to wait anther couple of years for the actual firing.

What I think should happen is we let all of our big name FAs walk Golladay, Okwara, Jones and considering their age/positional cost this would be a good time to move on from Muhlbach/Prater. With the reduced cap I expect to see some real bargains in FA, but probably not until after the first wave of signings.

Coaching, based on the guys we got Campbell/Lynn/Goff i'm hoping for some sort of cut blocking offensive scheme that relies on screens and a heavy dose of run game. Can't really expect much on the defensive side pretty much everyone needs to be replaced plus we'll be dealing with the BQ buddy contracts for at least 2 seasons.

FA/draft needs in order of priority IMO

WR
DT
DE
CB
LB
RB
S
RT
OG
K
LS

would you mind to make sure that it's (2) DT ?
(2) LB ?

more pressure up the middle and collapse the pocket would be extremely welcomed. would also help the LB corps (that we don't have or that just plain suck at their job).

And can we move LBs up the list?

I admit I was off a little. I said he was last in Run D. He is close to last.

close enough to be a bullseye, imo. he sucks at run defense

I still like Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah but could see him in multiple roles as hang Safety/LB

LSU Jabril Cox as a coverage LB. FCS All-American (ND-State) transferred in to LSU for Senior year and he proved he wasn't out of place. Best coverage LB in SEC.

OSU Pete Werner has played all four LB spots during his 4 years. He has good coverage abilities but may be better at Mike with plus coverage for that spot.

U of M Cameron McGrone doesn't have a ton of experience but he could be similar to Werner in the Mike. Has some growing to do but has shown good coverage skills.

There's not a lot to choose from this year, imo. Missouri LB reminds me of J. Davis.

The obvious choice is Parsons at Mike.

Not really a fan of bringing in stud linebackers unless you've already got the Dline to protect them. Need to fix the pass rush, then the secondary, then we can make our luxury picks.

I would prefer to get 1 in FA then to use an early draft pick on one. If we go to that 3-3-5 scheme it is almost like getting a DE. I am paying Shaq and then drafting a WR.

The following article is nothing more than hypothetical at this time but I believe he's on the right track whether fans like it or not. It's also just as possible to restructure Goff and Flowers. The latter I wouldn't like but in all honesty I would understand the possibility of it being only Goff (still wouldn't like it though).

How would a Jared Goff contract restructure look for the Lions? (usatoday.com)

you'll be highly disappointed to read, in the coming weeks, that one of the FA LB they sign is Jarrad Davis.

I think most of these low-tier FA will be looking at 1 year deals and more than the norm of mid-tier FA will be in the same boat.
One year prove it deals in hopes that 2022 reverts to the norm with an uptick in cap space so they can receive a better and longer term contract.

pretty much.

I'd assume they'll look for iDL that can be versatile similar to what we expected Hand to be. 5 tech on down.

4th year coming up.
He better get/stay healthy if he expects to find employment elsewhere in 2022.

Wake Forest DE/DL, Carlos Basham, might be a player Holmes will look at as a replacement for him.

interesting read.
side-note - LAR LT Andrew Whittworth missed 7 games so, I don't know if that had any bearing - doubt it

30. Jared Goff (Los Angeles Rams)

Goff's success will come from intermediate throws and a damn good run game - hopefully the O-Line will be better in 2021 than what it was in 2020 (to which we did see quite a lot of improvement from that group last year versus years prior).

KENNY GOLLADAY WR, DETROIT LIONS

The Athletic's Nick Baumgardner reports a "second-round pick might be on the table" if the Lions trade Kenny Golladay this offseason.

Baumgardner conceded a second round draft pick in exchange for Golladay was a highly optimistic outcome for Detroit, but possible considering his production when healthy. Any team interested in acquiring Golladay would have to overlook his injury-ravaged 2020 season in which he played five games and caught 20 passes for 338 yards and two touchdowns. Baumgardner said the Lions signing Golladay to the franchise tender before trading him "feels like a manageable option." With Marvin Jones on his way out of Detroit, Jared Goff could be stuck with one of the league's worst receiver groups if Golladay is traded.
