So it appears that the net has excepted that Hurt is 9 (between McGann and Eccleston). However, this uses up a regen and changes the numbers for all the NuWhos. Moffat has stated that Hurt will not affect the established numbering scheme.

In the last few weeks, that makes 6 different actors who have played the role of The Doctor in a canon production...

Matt Smith
David Tenant
John Hurt
Paul McGann
Peter Capoldi
Tom Baker (assuming The Currator was, in fact, a future incarnation)

Capaldi took over yesterday. What were your thoughts on the ep?

So are we supposed to understand that the Papal DB created the Silence? Than why are they trying to kill the Doctor every other time we meet them?

The Doc with a Cyberman companion was pretty cool.

Smith in his old-man makeup looked quite a bit like Peter Davidson.

Wasn't as good as the Tennant's End of Time episodes, but they did pretty good. Smith will be missed, he really was an excellent Doctor.

I think the faction of Silence Priests that had tried to kill The Doctor previously were part of the same rogue Papal faction that kidnapped/raised/brainwashed River Song. Or at least that is what I gathered.

I dug 'Handles', that was cool.

Love the show but I never cared for Matt Smith.

Seeing Tennant and Smith together though was great.

Love the show but I never cared for Matt Smith.

Seeing Tennant and Smith together though was great.

I was not excited for Smith when he started, but he became one if my favorites. He had an amazing mix of boyish oafishness and old-man bitterness (get off my lawn, if you will). I liked Tennant as well, but he was a bit more single-minded in his take (possibly intentionally). Looking at Tennants portrayal with 20/20, post War Doctor knowledge, I like his take more, though. The weight of destroying his home world and killing all of his people, mixed with a subconscious knowledge that something in the story was not right, was literally driving him insane. Smith took that aspect slightly further with his childishness and his overly goofy take on things. He was reverting to a new-born being, completely disassociating himself from the actions of he took in the war.

After the events of Day of the Doctor, he is "sane" again, and he is able to take on a more aged form again (I believe that Capaldi is the oldest actor to take over the role, save for Hurt, although, from Night of the Doctor, his reflection is seen and it is clear he is actually much younger upon initial regeneration).

I have not watched the clip yet, but when is Who supposed to start back up?
I don't think we get any new episodes until the fall. No air date has been set in stone though.
