  • 1993 AL ROY with a .918 OPS and 31 home runs
  • Ridiculous 1995 season: .330/.429/.594 with a 163 wRC+ and a .441 wOBA (fourth in baseball) in 638 PA
  • First MLB player to get a hit off Mariano Rivera
  • Great hitter, but his production is impacted by the era he played, his defense, and the positions he played
  • From 1993 to 2000 he only had two seasons with an OPS below .900 and he never finished below .860 in that span

Way to give it away before I could guess it. Oh well, I would've been close. My guess was Steve Trout

He was a 3 time player of the year for his team at the time. A member of the 30-30 club twice. A two time all star.
ONE gold glove. Won a home run derby. Good at drawing walks. Played the outfield. Retired not too long ago.
Played in both leagues. Who is he?

  • Overall a subpar hitter; 96 wRC+, but he did have some good offensive seasons
  • Speaking of good offensive seasons, in 2007 he hit .341/.388/.458 with a .372 wOBA
  • Started in two All-Star games, one for each league
  • ALCS MVP in 2006
  • Gold Glove winner in 2007, 2009, and 2011
  • Career 37.2 WAR in 7,887 PA

  • Played for one franchise for his entire career
  • 1959 AL Rookie of the Year
  • He hit 30 or more home runs three times in his career, and 20 or more eight times
  • Lifetime .358 OBP- finished in the top 10 in OBP in four seasons
  • Finished in the top 10 in triples in 1959, 1962, 1967, and 1968
  • A lot better than his numbers appear because he played in the 1960's
  • Finished with a career 35.3 WAR in 5,921 PA
  • Teammates include Harmon Killebrew, Zoilo Versalles, Jim Kaat, Rod Carew, and Tony Oliva

That doesn't seem possible. All those homeruns, triples and that OBP and he only had a career 35.3 WAR and only 5,921 PA?

Yeah, it is low. Part of the reason his WAR is so low is because of only ~6,000 PA

Bob Allison. His war would have been higher if he had a better batting average.

He's famous for a great catch in Game 2 of the 1965 World Series, where Jim Kaat defeated Sandy Koufax. The '65 WS is one of my favorites to read about
