Well, I'm bored. Let's have a little fun. Describe a player with some clues, maybe his team, era he played in, stats, personal life, etc. You can put as many or as few clues as you want. After you guess the player, post your own player clues. You can't post clues to a new player unless you were the one who guessed the last player correctly. Have your answer to the previous player and your clues for your new player in the same post. If no one can guess correctly after two days, the time is up and anyone can describe a new player.

Oh- and one more thing- NO CHEATING

  • This player played exclusively in the '80s
  • His career ended with a sudden and horrific injury
  • He is a motivational speaker now and released a Christian-themed baseball book over 10 years ago
Any guesses?

BAM. now your turn
damn, I wasn't prepared to get it right. I knew Dravecky had a horrifying arm injury but for some reason I thought he died. Give me a few minutes and I'll come up with one

Ok, this guy played for about 10 years, mostly in the 1990's. He played college ball in the SEC. Very intense. He was kind of underrated as a hitter. He had a lifetime .358 OBP which is pretty good for an infielder. He played in one World Series. He was plagued by injuries most of his career but the 4 seasons he was able to play over 140 games he put up solid numbers every year. His career finally ended when he was trying to catch on with a team in spring training and he was bitten by a poisonous spider and it made him sick for a while and he never really recovered.

Also, I'll give you three guys he was teammates with at some point in his career: Dale Murphy, Jim Edmonds, and Mariano Duncan

I'm stumped. The only person I can guess is Edgar Renteria, but I'm pretty sure he wasn't teammates with any of those guys, and I think he only played in the tail end of the '90s. Give me more time

you're in the zip code. He did play mostly third base. Disregard the College thing. That may be misleading. I don't think he was a well known college player like Bo Jackson or Will Clark.

Here is a big clue---he never played on the Braves

So he was a Rockie or a Phillie (assuming I'm remember Dale Murphy's career correctly). Hmm.....

I don't know now. I'll wait for Retroram to swoop in here and rescue me with his infinite baseball IQ (barring me having some miraculous epiphany)

Also, this guy made the all star team one year with a .372 OBP and 85 walks, but he was kind of overshadowed because 3 other guys on his team had over 100 walks and ridiculously high OBP that year.

Yeah, I guess you're at a disadvantage because you weren't around to see him play in person like some of us. I'm not sure if he's on the Phillies Wall of Fame yet, but if not I"m sure he'll get there eventually

20 years from now, you'll be educating the younger fans about some guy named Pedro Feliz
