The US seems to be very liberal in regards to DUIs. Most of the Western World is overly harsh.

Lots of people with multiple DWIs are driving while their license is still suspended/revoked.
Based on the little I've read, that wasn't the case here.

With such a large number of DWIs, I'm surprised that he wasn't required to have some sort of ignition lock (breath test) installed on his car.

It varies. In Arizona it's at least 10 days in jail for the 1st offense plus a fine. I think it's tougher here than it used to be most places though. I got 4 points and a $500 fine in 1980...my only one.

If I were Patrick, I might consider moving nearby just so he doesn’t get himself in trouble. But I understand if he doesn’t want to babysit his dad’s shit decisions.
