For a conditional 2015 draft pick. Does this mean Clifford is on the block? Seems like they are both the same type of player.

I'm kind of thinking this means Clifford is on the block, we'll see how that goes.

I am not a fan of Carcillo. I would have rather stuck with Cliffy. What is his cap hit?

Looks like it is 825K

i read this on puck daddy site:

...."has one year left on a deal worth $825,000.
It's a minor move, although it could speak to the Kings' struggles in getting tough guys Kyle Clifford and Jordan Nolan under contract. If Nolan does well in his arbitration hearing, might the Kings opt to walk away and replace him with Carcillo?"

So maybe it is a pressure move.

Unless Clifford is awarded more than 3.5 the Kings can not walk away

Hey whats up I made the switch :)

Carcillo... uggghhh.. Just please don't get suspensions and please don't make the Kings test their penalty kill over and over. Kings could use a scrappy dude but I hope he doesn't wear out his welcome.

Eh, I would take what Eklund has to say with a grain a salt.

When Carcillo got to chicago, he decided to be a complete hockey player, he wanted to contribute on offense, defense, special teams, play the Slap Shot "old time hockey". He should have listen to Ross Rhea and never become a hockey player, a goon is a goon.

Odd timing, he just had his day with the cup.

Why do we need him. Clifor contributes with some points on the ice. This guy is just a goon.

Hexy changed teams just before this trade. Maybe he didn't want anything to do with it?

New CBA

It's $3.5 million per season, which he will not get based on his comps and statistics. It's not the total award. At this point in his career and on his second NHL contract, he will probably get a deal worth $2.5-$3 million per season if he signs with LA.

Anything under per season and the Kings can indeed walk away just like under the old CBA. Clifford is a non factor in terms of Carcillo, he was brought in because they lost Penner. Big drop off in size but increase in nastiness. Carcillo will be a liability this season, putting the Kings on the PK constantly.

Better hope Mitchell comes back, which as of last week sounded likely.

Yeah i was wrong as usual
However the Kings do at the moment have two hearings and can only walk away from one. If they had three they could walk away from 2. And one for one is ok.
This is an incentive to get one signed before some one who doesnt care about the teams cap issues forces a move. This is why Carillo was signed. He is cheaper that Clifford and they are hoping Clifford will be worth more than a 5th round pick

I agree with that to a degree, but I'm leaning towards the Penner replacement.

No matter what Clifford will be here whether it's through negotiation before the arbitration date or the arbitration award, because Clifford will not get more than a 2 year deal and I can't see him getting $7 million (minimum) total. He is not a $3.5 million a season player, at least not yet anyway. I'm hoping he develops into one however.

I'm pretty sure (hunch) the difference between the Kings and Clifford is minimal and will be resolved before he goes to his hearing. Carcillo would have been added to the roster no matter what once Penner left.

FYI, I will be pissed if Clifford is dealt. There is another level he can reach, he just needs to be assisted in getting over that hump. I would hate to see that happen in another uniform.

Thanks for the heads up, I didn't check it. I know Lewis, Nolan, Martinez and someone else did but assumed it was Clifford the way this thread has gone.

Then scratch all this talk - Clifford will be signed before camp me thinks. Carcillo is just a roster player added to replace another roster player and I don't think one carries too much weight with the other.

I'm calling 4 years/$11 million for Clifford on a new deal.

I hope so... Clifford is a great, solid player. His value, as you suggested, hasn't been obtained yet. Get it done DL!
