Every article basically come down to Bryz and/or Danny B. I still like DB, but he is no where near his cap hit.I dont know if restructuring is allowed but I dont see him even worth $4m at this point. He is gone, gone, gone.

For the love of god, DB has to be bought out. I can think of $6.5 reasons why to get rid of him. Just to name a few: very high cap hit, injury prone, scoring extremely on decline, salary cap being lowered next season. For all of you Briere fans on here, shall I keep adding to this list?

And how do you replace his playoff scoring?

And how do you replace his playoff scoring?

We have to make the playoffs before we have to worry about replacing Danny. That is a ton of money for a guy who is on the decline. His contract is so terrible that we can't even trade him. Teams know that the Flyers will buy him out. As for replacing his production??? Are we talking about Briere in the past few years or the Briere of present?? I would like to see who is available UFA. Laughton will move up to replace Briere. Sign a veteran forward. The Flyers should be in decent cap space if they buyout Briere and Bryzy. I go back and forth on Bryzy. I would look at the Blues as this year's matchmaker. Defense or goaltending.

If we dont make the playoffs what good is playoff scoring???

Briere was hurt or playing hurt much of he season. If the season was 82 games the FLyers would have made it.

Look Im just saying when we make the playoffs next season how do we replace his veteren and proven ways? Im just saying be careful what you wish for. We could be here next year saying we need more scoring depth after we get knocked out in the 1st round.

We have alot of young players who havent proven themselves in the playoffs yet.

i'm ok with buying out briere, because he is overpaid. but it's not all about being paid the right amount, you still have to replace a top-6 forward if you buy him out, and are really you going to get better value than briere if you do that? i don't see many names on those lists that strike me as head and shoulders more valuable, as a top-6 forward, than briere.

(valuable = production vs cost in this comment)

and laughton does not replace briere. he replaces his roster spot maybe, but laughton, at best, is the flyers 3C next year. probably the 4C. anything more and the flyers will be in deep trouble (or laughton will blow my socks off). i see laughton as max talbot, who, after a few years in the league, can produce around talbot's career year offensively (fingers crossed).

i am not comfortable going in to the season with the top 6 as

hartnell.giroux.voracek
schenn.couturier.simmonds

that is not enough offense. if they can sign ribiero, im ok with it. but aside from that, and barring a big trade, buying out briere seems silly to me. you're cutting off your nose to spite your face.

exactly my point.
Is Briere overpaid ? Yes
Did we sign this deal knowing he would be getting paid this much at this age? Yes

Has Briere earned his contract? I say Yes.

We get rid of him and we are screwed for depth. Lets get him healthy and playing well in time for the playoffs.

and for those who think we'll have a ton of space with a briere AND bryz buyout.. here's what i've got

FORWARDS
Scott Hartnell ($4.750m) / Claude Giroux ($3.750m) / Jakub Voracek ($4.250m)
Brayden Schenn ($3.110m) / Sean Couturier ($1.375m) / Wayne Simmonds ($3.975m)
Simon Gagne ($2.000m) / Maxime Talbot ($1.750m) / Matt Read ($0.900m)
Jay Rosehill ($0.675m) / Scott Laughton ($1.107m) / Zac Rinaldo ($0.750m)
Adam Hall ($0.650m)

DEFENSEMEN
Kimmo Timonen ($6.000m) / Luke Schenn ($3.600m)
Braydon Coburn ($4.500m) / Nicklas Grossmann ($3.500m)
Erik Gustafsson ($1.100m) / Andrej Meszaros ($4.000m)
Bruno Gervais ($0.825m)
Chris Pronger ($4.941m)

GOALTENDERS
Steve Mason ($1.500m)
Evgeni Nabokov ($2.000m)

OTHER
Buyout: Oskars Bartulis ($0.100m)
Buyout: Danny Briere ($0.000m)
Buyout: Ilya Bryzgalov ($0.000m)
------
CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled with the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $67,608,095; BONUSES: $2,800,000
CAP SPACE (24-man roster):- $508,095

that dips 500k in to pronger's LTIR which i'm guessing the flyers will NOT want to do right off the bat. you might be able to save around a total of 1 mil off the gange/gus/nabakov deals.

to be completely honest, the flyers may not have a choice. they might HAVE to buy out both players.

so everyone can play:

bartulis was bought out last summer, they just have a cap penalty for it still

because they drafted crosby, malkin, letang, fleury, orpik, and depres.

their top 2 forwards, top 3 dmen, and starting goalie.

patience and good drafting is the way to keep teams cheap. look at the flyers, the two BEST contracts they have on the team, BY FAR, are giroux and read, one drafted, one signed as an undrafted FA.

(it doesn't hurt that he fleeces teams at the trade deadline every year.)

((nor does it it hurt to draft in the top 5, 5 years straight))

(((regardless, trading what amounts to 3 first round draft picks for an ancient dman will fuck you.)))

I just think we could do more with the cap hit that brierre is getting paid than what he brings to the team at this point. Even if he was hurt last year it's not like he had the greatest year the prior season and we still got knocked out in the second round with him and his cap hit. He is a playoff performer and i love him i just think with the cap going down we could spend that money more wisely.

It's not really replacing Mez because it's not like he's ever availible to play. It's more like replacing a roster spot.
