I debated the Elijah Craig and 4 Roses when I picked up the Devil's Cut, so I may give them a try next.

I will say that I'll stay away from flavored whiskeys, at least for now.

Blantons is a higher than $40 a fifth but it is very good.

I'm from the Moonshine Capital of the World - Franklin County, VA. If you're paying $120 for 1.5 gal, you're getting robbed.

This is supposed to be the best around, and I'm gonna have to disagree with you on the shine capital of the world. That belongs to Dawsonville, GA.

Even if it's the best around, you're paying double what you should.

You have the right to disagree, but history (including recent history) on the other hand sides with Franklin County.

First - the price of any do not impress me....

I do shots of Jamison

I also liked the Devil's Cut to sip.

Can't go wrong with Maker's Mark.

I think this area really has more 'personal taste' issues than beer.

Just finished off the last drop of the Devil's Cut. I'll be sure to take these suggestions into consideration when I head back to the liquor store and update accordingly. May make this thread a documentary of my "bourbon journey".

For now though, it's Sierra Nevada Pale Ale for the rest of the weekend.

I've been on a slight bourbon/whiskey kick in the past month. My plan is to try a different one each time and so far have went through a bottle of Maker's Mark and Evan Williams black and just picked up Jim Beam Devil's Cut. While I liked MM, I found EW to be smoother, but not as complex to my palette. Of course it was half the price of MM and I was looking to drink quite a bit that weekend.

I'm just polishing off my first double of Devil's Cut and it is my favorite out of the three so far. Will probably be one I'll keep on hand for a glass here or there after work/dinner when I want to enjoy a drink.

Even though I just opened is bottle, I'm looking for suggestions on my next buy. I'd like to keep the price tag in the under $40 per fifth range. For what it matters, I like my drinks neat.
I enjoy small batch/single barrel bourbon and have been doing exactly what you are setting out to do namely trying a different brand each time I buy.

Maker's is good for sure.

Bookers is also very good.

My kids bought me a bottle of Eagle Rare and i found it to be very smooth. Also noticed it was about 25% less than most top shelf Bourbons ($40ish) here in NH.

Basil Hayden's was very good.

Knob Creek, Bulleit, Jim Beam Black, Maker's 46 are all good too. Damn, I don't think I've tried one I didn't like!

Time to head to our newest and biggest liquor store to see what they are stocking.

Ahh, Jameson. Or as me Ma puts it: "What Americans think Irish whisky is."

Try some Powers or Paddy, you Plastic Patty. ;) I use to recommend the Red Breast 12 year, but American reviewers discovered it and the price shot up. Dollar for dollar the Powers 12 is the best Irish whisky on the American market.

Shopping adventure is over and I scored a 750ml bottle of "1792 Ridgemont Reserve".

I'll keep you posted.

Crown Royal ... Canadian Whiskey and Gentleman Jack ... Tennessee Whiskey. Don't get fooled by the Single Barrel Jack, it more expensive and not as smooth. Always keep a single malt bottle of scotch that is old enough to vote (for special occasions).

lol. Walk into any bar and tell me you see Powers, Tullamore or Jamison are
'all' I see unless in Beantown. I'm talkin' about the bars in and around Philly.

The same can be said for Guinness.... the taste in Ireland ROCKS versus in the US which is....just very goodish.

"1792 Ridgemont Reserve" is good. Smooth and tasty. Only $25 too, which is very reasonable for a small batch bourbon.

Hehe, you aren't exaggerating. When I walk into an Irish pub in the states I ask to see a whisky list. Fastest way to tell if you are I an Irish pub, or a bar that calls itself Irish because it sells Guinness and plays U2.

Come down to Baltimore. The bar I manage has 22 Irish whiskys at last count. We'll hook you up with the good stuff.

$25 for a small batch? Nice. Is that a 500 or 750, though?

I think I'm the only whisky drinker around that can't stand that stuff, which is odd because I enjoy everything else from the Buffalo Trace family.

750ml. We have the gift of very reasonable liquor prices here in NH.

Hmmm, I didn't notice it missing on Saturday, but I wasn't looking for it. Now you've got me thinking about going back to the liquor store.

BTW, I too like the Eagle Rare.
