Here is his draft vs development argument:

Ok, so I would say the scouting has a vision and is far from a perfect science. Development has to take that vision and make it reality. Some picks have been considered safe and selected for that reason. Some have had higher ceiling and been further away, and some have been pure Numbers. Numbers only don’t work, but they can and should quantify what you’re seeing to a point and cement or eliminate picks. We’ve fallen into a trap where we expect players to sink or swim on they’re own and if they don’t swim we blame the player. At the end of the day, if Leadership isn’t on the same page with their scouts and development, the wrong players will be selected and nobody will get developed. At present, the Mariners need to start over with draft and develop. But do it right with the right people. Can’t keep committing to mediocrity.

That's awesome he did that. Other GM's are probably shaking their head wondering why Dip didn't make a move to shore up the starting five like us fans were demanding. I think if the M's signed Arrieta that one move could have put them over the top to snag a playoff spot.

I listened to the one on the 30th and the only thing said about the Mariners was that they are not a threat and only the Angels are. I will listen to the next one out of curiosity.

Yanks go up 3 on Astros in the 9th after Verlander goes 8 scoreless innings. Giles is their one weakness.

Booth also mentions at the end of the podcast the 2013 draft where we took DJ Peterson. He said M's loved Colin Moran who went to the Astros and now on Pirates. He also mentioned they had Judge on their board who went in the 30's but couldn't work it out or something like that but then kind of gets off the subject like he didn't want to say why. Interesting.
