yeah the 5 walks is a mindblower. Would expect that from a guy like Bonds

Watched game on replay and he took a borderline pitch for last walk. At dugout with Choo. It's like he has become a Choo disciple now

One impressive play early was the Beltre barehanded throw to first and IKF running down the line to cover the base runner rounding 2nd. Good fundamental baseball.

ARLINGTON -- For the first time in four seasons with the Rangers, Jeff Banister is in a spot that no manager really wants.

Banister is the point man for a rebuilding team.

The Rangers signaled that by trading away their No. 1 starter (Cole Hamels), their closer (Keone Kela) and two effective relievers (Jesse Chavez and Jake Diekman) in the last two weeks. It is all about the future.

That means success will be measured by the growth of players rather than the conventional won-loss record. The Rangers can improve and still pile up losses during the duration of this season.

They added a win Thursday, routing dreadful Baltimore 17-8 at Globe Life Park. Jurickson Profar drove in four runs in the first two innings as the Rangers scored a season-high in runs.

"It's the challenge at the major league level, where the end result is always judged by the number of wins you put on the board," Banister said. "There are different wins out there today for me than the ones that come in out-scoring your opponent.

"Those wins ... will win a championship for us in the future."

The Rangers won the American League West in Banister's first two seasons. They could lose 90-plus games this season. Banister did not change as a manager.

The unfortunate part of this is the losses go on a manager's record without an asterisk indicating the team was looking to the future. Banister understands that fact of managerial life and can deal with it.

"We've got to be plan-oriented," Banister said.

The front office could help by reinforcing Banister's status.

Banister is under contract through next season. If the Rangers believe he is the right person for this multi-year job, they could voice that with an extension. A manager of a rebuilding team in the final year of a contract is in a terrible situation.

Andrus must lead the league in complaining about pitches that are actually a strike.

After just missing a bases loaded double follows it up with a grand salami. Like if at first you don't succeed try and try again.

Odor is killing it.

Rangers might just come out ahead in that contract after all.

Pregame quote from Gallo. You have to learn from your failures.......nice. Good lesson

Another quote. Maybe the pitchers are getting tired. .......what????? Not the best theory Don- Pudge tells Joey to lay off the high pitches. We all need to learn our lessons
