Probably have divisions like this:

Pacific: SEA, POR, GS, LAC, LAL, SAC, LV, PHX

Mountain? (not sure what to call this one): UTA, DEN, MIN, OKC, HOU, SA, DAL, NO

Midwest?: CHI, DET, CLE, IND, MEM, MIL, ATL, TOR

Atlantic: ORL, CHA, MIA, WAS, NY, BRK, BOS, PHI
I’d be good with this. Lose Toronto in division in exchange for the Heat which is a far better franchise. The other three franchises added are perennial dog shit and can’t get out of their own way in Orl Was and Cha.

Probably have divisions like this, divisions hardly matter anyway:

Pacific: SEA, POR, GS, LAC, LAL, SAC, LV, PHX

Mountain? (not sure what to call this one): UTA, DEN, MIN, OKC, HOU, SA, DAL, NO

Midwest?: CHI, DET, CLE, IND, MEM, MIL, ATL, TOR

Atlantic: ORL, CHA, MIA, WAS, NY, BRK, BOS, PHI

Looks pretty Good

But yes no point on divisions anyway unless the division winners are the top seeds

It probably determines how many times you face certain opponents.

Just to keep it organized really, two 16-team conferences seems weird

And scheduling...32 games vs the other conference (home and home vs every team), leaves 50 for in conference. 28 of those are in division (4 vs the other 7 teams), leaves 22 for the other 8 teams. Do they expand to 84 games so there's 24 vs the other 8? You know they'd want to.

Why would they reduce the number of divisions?

One thing is for certain, the NBA will do something that doesn’t make sense to us.

Because with 16 teams one division would have 6 teams and the others 5. Plus divisions are almost meaningless, just a scheduling system really.

I dunno, my idea makes a lot of sense and isn't exactly rocket science to figure out.

I agree, I’d bet it all they will do something that doesn’t seem to make sense though. There will be a promise that was made here or there that will keep it from making sense. Just what I think.

Why would they reduce the number of divisions?
Maybe they move to 4 divisions per conference:

Seattle, Portland, Vegas, Phoenix
Sacramento, Golden State, Lakers, Clippers
Utah, Denver, OKC, Minnesota
Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, New Orleans

Milwaukee, Indiana, Chicago, Memphis
Toronto, Detroit, Cleveland, Washington
Memphis, Atlanta, Orlando, Miami
Boston, Brooklyn, New York, Philadelphia

8 divisions could make it 4x in your division, 3x the rest of the conference, 2x the opposite conference for an 80 game season.

Yes we know, you're definitely a "everything Adam Silver and the NBA do is wrong" kinda guy

That would work too, but do you really think they'd drop games instead of add? This is all hypothetical and 8 total divisions of 4 seems weird too, with only 3 other teams you face a lot, but both ideas work ok to me.

If they're adding tournaments and play in games while still pretending to care about player health, then they need to make some weak gesture in the other direction. I would prefer to remove more games, trying to eliminate as many back to backs as possible.

Never said anything would be “wrong” just that it likely won’t make sense. Guess we will see.

They should make Minny move further West to fit the conference better lol. Couldn't Kansas support a team?

Questions whether the Lakers should or would extend AD this summer are misguided. If he is interested, it will get done. If they decide differently a year or two down the road, trading him for assets. Better to rebuild post-Lebron with one building block than tearing it all down.
