Hahahaha, what a fucking joke this team is.

Depends on your definition of "joke," I guess... If anything, it's still an improvement over 1998-2011-- although it does seem that this team is trending toward a 2013-like finish (still a winning season, but missing the playoffs).

Well, we've already improved over last years record. Atlanta and Minnesota are jokes. While this team is unlikely in my opinion to go deep in the playoffs, they're far from a joke.

trey on the team in 17 but where ? I think move davis to rf
I say trade Davis and try to re-sign Trumbo and have him DH. Maybe you can get a decent RF and a starting pitcher for Davis.

It's obvious that the team is ready for the season to be over.

...except Mancini, apparently. So, here's another vote for trading Davis in the 2016-17 offseason as a means of unblocking 1B...

I was going to say streaky. That's what I think has killed this team. Yes, they will sometimes go on four or five game winning streaks but on the other hand, they also go on four or five game losing streaks often as well. And this was the absolute wrong time to go on one of these losing streaks. I think that the rest of the way, we have to go at least 6-3 or 7-2 to get one of the wild card slots.
And if we don't happen to even get a wild card spot, this is going to be looked upon as a season of what if's because more often than not, the offense did it's part. It was our horrendous starting pitching for most of the season that has us in the bind that we're in.

For the month of September so far, it's actually the opposite:
  • Team pitching: 3.46 ERA (7th in the MLB) / 1.22 WHIP (8th)

  • Team batting: 0.228 AVG (28th in the MLB) / 0.297 OBP (26th) / 0.409 SLG (15th) / 0.705 OPS (24th)
I think this is a very strong evidence that having a team of "three true outcomes" hitters is a bad idea: The increase in power that you're supposed to get is not enough to compensate for the reduced probability of getting on base.

That being said... it should be noted that the Orioles actually didn't lose that much ground as one would expect: They ended the month of August being tied for the 2nd wild card spot, while they're currently "only" half a game down.

Tonight was a night of missed opportunities, whether we end up winning or losing. There have been too many opportunities gone by the way side where we could've scored some runs with guys in scoring position but always managed to find a way to botch it.

Didn't help that the game should've been over in the 9th, yet the umpires don't even know their own rules.

Ugh.
1st two batters get on, Machado, Trumbo and Mancini then proceed to strike out

Would someone please inform the offense that there is less than a week left in the season and now is not the time for everyone to go into a slump.

As usual, the bottom of the lineup saves the day. MVPBritton

Still would like to know where this Ubaldo that we've seen for the past month or so has been the past 2+ years.

Now we just got to go to New York, ruin Tex's fairwell games by winning those games and for Boston to beat up on Toronto. I'd much rather see Detroit against us for the play in game (if we get there) instead of Toronto or definitely Seattle.

The ideal situation would be something like this:
  • Baltimore goes 2-1 in the last 3 games: 89-73
  • Toronto goes 1-2 in the last 3 games: 88-74
  • Detroit goes 3-1 in the last 4 games (including the make-up game with Cleveland): 88-74
  • Seattle goes 4-0 in the last 4 games: 88-74
In other words: A 3-way tie for the 2nd wild card while the Orioles get the 1st wildcard outright (which means being able to wait for the dust to settle during the tiebreaker games).

While that does sound intriguing, I'd be worried about having too much time off and losing any mojo we'd have.
