The Cup winners keep coming from our division. That tells me if we just take it to our biggest rivals, there aren't many more obstacles to win it all. Find a way to coast into the playoffs and then kick it up a few notches late in the season. Don't peak too early or too late and don't wear yourself out trying to win the President's Trophy or even just the division.

If we get a less than favorable draw again in round one, so be it. You've got to beat the best to be the best and our division is arguably the best in hockey. This is what playoff results tell you, not regular season statistics.

Cup winners also tend to have one other thing in common - a top goalie who can get hot, preferably one who wasn't overworked during the regular season:

11 - Thomas
12 - Quick
13 - Crawford
14 - Quick
15 - Crawford
16 - Murray
17 - Murray
18 - Holtby

Those guys are all quite a bit better than Elliot/Neuvirth. Here's to hoping Hart is the Flyers' version of Murray circa 2016.

Also of note, other than Quick in 2012 (69) none of those guys played in more than 57 games during the regular season in their Cup year.

Hoping Hart can play starting this season and make this come true.

I think this is very realistic for JVR.
In order for JVR to score 30 plus goals he will have to be on the top PP unit but he will be on the 2nd unit which will be improved but the unit wont get enough PP time for him to score 10-12 PP goals.

The last line of this article says we got a little bit better. I totally agree with that. With JVR we will be a little bit better.
I'm hopin some of these rookies make some huge leaps this year and the sophmore crew to step up another level to.

My prediction, he starts in the AHL and gets called up after someone is injured and slowly but surely gets more playing time as the season progresses.

Probably true and the injuries will happen with our glass goalies.

That would be great. I would expect by mid season one of our two NHLers will be hurt.

Since we arent winning the cup anyway why would we keep him and lose him for nothing. If we actually have a shot at the cup i could see keeping him but losing him for nothing even though everyone says next year isn't our year to win the cup why keep him and get nothing
There's always a shot and next year will be better than last and so on. If the team looks good you normally would trade for a rental so why trade Simmonds away and rent someone else? That was my point. The Jets last year gave up a first for Stastny as an example. I do agree that if there's no chance then move him if of course they can't resign him.

As per Hart hopefully he goes Dryden and helps win us a cup! Wouldn't surprise me if he plays this year but if not it's because the others are healthy and playing well. Could be a win win either way...

I don't mind keeping Simmonds for a playoff run, but if he's healthy and having a below average year (again), we don't want to lose him in the offseason for nothing or sign him to a bad contract.

If he's healthy and having a bad season, will there be any takers?

If he's healthy and on pace for 25 goals, it's historically a below average season for him (I wouldn't say bad), but there will definitely be takers. It's because he brings many intangibles to the table aside from just his goal scoring. I really don't need to list them...Lol

I'm looking forward to him finally being healthy, actually. We need that old Wayne Train back.
