Whoever is there, it's not going to be Mitch Moreland. And I'd be shocked if JD just lets him walk without getting anything back to show for it. Won't be much, but it'll be something.
Moreland is going nowhere this year. He still plays a good 1B and can sit 7th or 8th in the order.
Joey Gallo or Adrian Beltre will be our first basemen next year.
Having depth with Profar is a good problem. Someone always has some DL stint and Profar will fill it.
The only toxic contract that can be moved for a benefit right now is Elvis. But that won't happen this year.
I'd hate to be JD in a time like that. It'd be a hard trade to make whether it be mid season or off season. Probably necessary but hard.Elvis is hitting well, playing good defense and brings intangibles like the heads up deke on the base path today. His value may not ever be higher. If they ever intend to move him at his peak value, now may be the time. Of course that may negatively impact team chemistry, or it may not, who knows. The team will surely have less personality in his absence
I agree Mitch has some value. Seems to me that moving him at mid-season allows the Rangers to get Rua (or Profar, if you're so inclined) into the lineup daily instead of them wasting away on the bench and gives them something to show for him instead of just letting him walk. This is assuming that Choo comes back healthy and Mazara shifts over to LF, supplanting Rua there.
I don't have any hope that Moreland is going to be anything but a hole of suck at the plate the rest of the way.

Yes given the history of Elvis moving him off season is a risk. A risk JD will have to take.Elvis is hitting well, playing good defense and brings intangibles like the heads up deke on the base path today. His value may not ever be higher. If Elvis continues his consistency at the plate after the ASG JD might move but why if he is helping the team. If you trade him and Profar is injured you are up the creek. No rush in moving Profar up now or even this summer. He is not a solution for Fielder so we can forget that. The replacement for Fielder is Gallo. And that won't happen this summer.
Fellas we are stuck with Fielder and Moreland. Now how Banister manages his pair of twos is important. Both currently in the lineup is a liability we all know that. Long term season solution? None really. Day to day series by series yes. That's what Banister gets paid for.

Profar can absolutely be a replacement for Fielder as he's the DH, that can literally be anyone in that spot
Gallo is probably going to replace Moreland going forward
your definition of logic is a lot different than mine, then.
Well he can sit and draw 72 mil. What would you do if you were FO

I am very much inclined to play Profar daily and yes Mitch may only be a defensive replacement or late inning PH. To go south so hard now has to be some pressure he has on him as this is a contract year. I have no problem moving Mitch for value but we will have to realize we will lose defensive value. In my mind Gallo is up playing 1B at the latest September and when they bring him up it is to start and take over 1B
well i wouldn't give up x number of top prospects + $30 to 40M just to unload Prince. i would consider putting him on the DL as i think he is concealing problems with his neck. he needs to man up and get his issue fixed or retire with an injury settlement. but no way do i give top prospects[/
That's right! You think but don't know. Prospects don't have to be tops. Consider we are loaded with catchers too. So again what would you do. You don't know if he has neck issues are not. If he does he certainly not indicating any significant pain. So you put him on the DL. For what?
Rua/ Gallo. Do you know if Prince needs to be on the DL or you guessing? Big differenceso who do you put out there at 1st? Prince who needs to be on the DL? Profar who has never play there? who?
Putting Profar at DH on a regular basis is frankly a bad move. He's a definite INF asset to this organization.
Rua/ Gallo. Do you know if Prince needs to be on the DL or you guessing? Big difference
so you would re-sign him to a multi-year deal? i wouldn't i would rather see Guzman than Moreland next year
You are right and he is still a couple of years away. Any sooner and he is in a logjam as well just like Profar is. In fact he may be regardless.Guzman is too raw. Gallo is getting time at 1b as well. Those two can handle it.
