Jimmy is incompetent because he couldn't see that Mike D'Antoni was the wrong hire for this roster.

In fact, he tried to sell that shit pile to us, that MDA was the "best fit for this roster right now." Anyone could see that a coach who openly despises post play, wants to run, and has a known lack of regard for defense is not the right fit for an older, bigger team with two 7-footers in its starting line-up. That's why. At the time, I was beyond upset because it was plainly obvious. And I took note of all the NBA analysts who tried to say it was a good fit, never read their shit again because I found out they don't know shit based on that alone.

"Anyone" could see it. It was "plainly obvious."

But Mitch Kupchak couldn't see it. It wasn't plainly obvious to him.

And Kobe Bryant couldn't see it. It wasn't plainly obvious to him.

Thanks for the read BRS.

I did have a good run. There were always people who didn't like the triangle, thought it was too methodical, too unlike Showtime. But I was always astonished about how well I was treated. When I came back [in 2005] and took the job, people actually thanked me. They didn't say, "Good luck." They said "Thank you." I never forgot that.

So I guess the chants at Staples didn't mean much?

And bringing back Phil would have gone a long way towards solving the problems we experienced this season (lack of coherent identity, lack of defensive schemes, no post play for 5 months, unbridled discretion by Kobe in shot selection and playing time, players buying into the team, etc.), and he'd help a lot next season as well.

He RETIRED YEARS AGO, Dude! How did you miss that? They got him a rocking chair.

He got too old for the game. Why live in the past?

Then they asked if he was really interested again and he FUMBLED!

You might as well talk about Santy Claus coming- or the Magic Rainbow Unicorn!

SO NOT HAPPENING!

What do they mean? The chants.

That the fans (based on PURE EMOTION and NOSTALGIA) run the team???

Not the GM & the Owner?

Who cares what they chant? Wrestling is popular in America. The obviously fake kind- they chant a lot too- I can tell when I am channel surfing.

Thumper, I honestly can't figure out if you're trolling, not reading what we're all posting, or just don't get it? Seriously.

Think what you want, BRS. Seriously.

I feel like I accept reality as it is. And you live in fantasy and make believe.

To each his own.

1. Phil is not coming back to the Lakers in any capacity. Period. Reality.

2. Jimmy Buss is not surrendering his position or title or team to Jeannie. Nor will he sell it to Jeannie & Phil & Magic, etc. Not going to happen.

3. Magic Johnson has been known to get emotional and talk out of his ass. btw, how many other NBA players came down with HIV/AIDS? Maybe his judgment isn't perfect.

He stopped coaching the Lakers a couple years ago. I don't remember him saying anything about retiring. I believe he stopped because during the 10/11 season he was diagnosed with prostate(?) cancer. He did say he wants a front office position, not a coaching position. I guess in that sense you can conclude he retired from coaching.

I was just talking about the team. The people who keep throwing up their hands in despair and whining and saying that only Jeannie & Phil can solves this...

That seems more like trolling to me.

I don't even think they believe it.

Also, Magic does not own the Lakers. And maybe he is not the guy to follow off of a cliff.

I'm sticking up for our actual Head Coach, Mike D'Antoni.

I'm sticking up for our actual Owner, Jim Buss.

I'm sticking up for our actual General Manager, Mitch Kupchak.

I'm sticking up for our actual Star Player, Kobe Bryant.

All 4 of the above are good enough for me, and unlike you guys, I will not drag them done to prop up outsiders who will not be brought in and have no say in the matter.

I stand up for our guys.

You Haters are doing the trolling.

Thumper, your posts just don't matter any more than mine. You think Jimmy is the owner of all that is Lakers, I think he sucks.

I don't think Jeannie and or Phil will get the team, just because of Jimmy.

Mitch needs to go because without him, Jimmy can't make a decision and they both will be wrong.

Dwight needs to move on, his baby attitude, lack of real game and constant injuries can and should move on to Texas.

Pau, needs to go for the best price available, picks, rookies and just change.

MWP and anyone else too old to figure the past was yesterday needs to go.

Kobe needs to get healthy, even if it is all next season.

Nash is done and can't stay healthy or guard even me and I'm 61.

Blow it up, it has been a great run and it will take years to fix it but start now.

I think it all starts with being able to trade Nash. He has 2 years left on his contract. If a team from the East takes him like the 6ers or something. Nash is still a decent draw and might help assist some young forwards.

I doubt anyone would give up a 1st round pick for Nash but maybe an upper 2nd round pick would do wonders if they get lucky.

Then Goudelock will get the needed playing time he needs to get better on defense.

Cavs taking Brown saved them a lot of money. The next available coach won't command a contract that high.

Let's get to the point, the question is where do the Lakers go from here?

I will tell you where they go. The same place they always go. The draft, free agency, trades. They always seem to find talent whether it's a veteran or a rookie and they will do it again. Nobody is saying it's a one year process but the Lakers always find a way a hell of a lot quicker than most.

They will get there again !!!!

Did you hear Kupchak talking today? I did.

D'Antoni adapted his "system" when the Lakers closed out at 20-8 while having an all-time record of injuries. That's great coaching!

Did you hear Kobe talking today? I did. Doesn't at all seem like Kobe wants a new coach.

I think Mitch the GM and Kobe the Star Player are both positive going forward (and so am I.)

So you guys can cry all day and night. Wah! Injuries happen. Get over it. Grow up. Chill out. Without the injuries, Lakers would have rolled the Spurs.

I am just curious Thumper. You claim to be a Laker fan. Did you even watch one game this year? If you did, how could you not notice the lack of enthusiasm, the lack of effort, the serious lack of team chemistry, the clueless coaching as to how to use the players you have and not just try to run a system? The is no cohesiveness with this team right now and that goes for the players and the coach. Lip service goes only so far. If you think that changes don't need to be made in player and coaching personel then you are as clueless as you are making yourself sound. Maybe all you have is :2cents:

Here is what we KNOW going into this off-season:

1.) As soon as they are allowed to the Lakers are going to offer Dwight a 5 year $118 million contract. As soon as they are allowed to, at least a couple of other teams will offer Dwight a 4 year $88 million contract. The only question is: Which offer will he accept? The only other possible scenario is the Lakers sign Dwight to a 4 year $88 million contract and then trade him (least likely, imo).

2.) Kobe will return to the Lakers at some point. He says he will be ready on the 1st day of training camp. His 34 year old torn achilles and the doctors may disagree, but given his history, I wouldn't bet against Kobe!!

3.) Kobe will NOT be amnestied. Unless Short Buss is intent on running things the complete opposite of the way Dr. Buss did, the Lakers are not going to amnesty a first ballot hall of famer who spent his entire 17 (soon to be 18) year career with them and had a huge role in 5 championships.

4.) Kobe wants Pau on the Lakers. This tells me that the only way that Pau doesn't remain a Laker is if they can get a younger, up and coming all-star caliber player (K. Love?) and probably an expiring contract or 2 in return. Kobe being as adamant as he sounded yesterday re: Pau, indicated that Pau will not be amnestied either. Kobe also sounded very optimistic re: Pau and Dwight playing together saying "We finally got that puzzle figured out towards the end of the season".

5.) None of us will likely ever know what the real issue is between Phil and Short Buss!! Phil is an arrogant, know-it-all prick and there is no doubt in my mind that their issues are as much Phil's fault as they are Jim's. Phil also has forgotten more about coaching and managing gigantic ego's than Short Buss or any of the rest of us will ever know. The difference is: when Brown was fired and the Lakers flirted with hiring Phil, Phil appeared to be prepared to find a way to work together while Jim used the opportunity to "stick it to Phil". I mean c'mon....you couldn't give arguably the greatest coach in league history 1 weekend to think about it?!? 5 championships don't get you a weekend?!?

TrojanFan12: Excellent synopsis! I think Pau will be back. I think Kobe will be back. I think Metta is done. I think D12 will make a decision right around the draft as that is when a lot of the activity of player decisions get rammped up by teams. And I think we may try to trade Nash and bring in more young players. Rolln is right. The Lakers will find fresh talent. They always do. I see us re-signing Goudelock and Meeks but I see Jamison to be done. Ebanks might be done. Clark is a keeper but I think Morris may or may not be back. Blake will be back and so will Jordon Hill. If we could get Lowry for Nash, that would be better. But again we will see as we get closer to the draft at the end of June.

We have to improve athletically at either starting or 2nd string point guard. Even though both Steves played well last year when healthy, PG is still a huge defensive liability if we're going to go with both of them again. I don't care if Meeks gets resigned, he wasn't knocking them down every time wide open and he is small defensively as well as small when he is driving. Goudelock showed he can create his own shot, he deserves a contract, he fights every night just for a shot at playing in the league. Won't be sad to see Jamison (the layup master ((not a diss))) go now that we have Clark who can play the 3 or 4 and hopefully a healthy Jordan Hill next year.

We passed up on guys like Delfino last year. We need a knock down shooter.
