They traded a #2 in 2018, 2-3 years later he's proven he wasn't really worth that #2, is a borderline starter at best, most likely his future is likely going to be a Ryan Fitzpatrick like career, and they think they can flip him for a #1??

Wow. Sam Darnold doesn’t even get a mention?

Makes me want to just thank the Jets (and Broncos) again for letting the big fella slide!

Panthers get an upgrade on Teddy? Jury is still out, I say.

Beginning to wonder how he didn't merit a mention myself.

Personally I find it hilarious that many media members are suddenly writing off the Panthers as a team that might draft a QB now. These were the same dudes saying the Jets HAD to draft one when they had Darnold....so...how does Darnold in Carolina mean they don't HAVE to draft one?? Might be slightly less likely, but I certainly wouldn't write it off.

As for TeddyB vs Darnold, an upgrade on the hypothetical, "might be", "could be", otherwise just a younger dude who makes more mistakes.

I think that's more about what pick number they are at. They aren't going to be able to trade up anymore or they would really look like idiots for spending draft capital on a quarterback and then trying to trade more draft capital to move up. Even the GM of the Jets said that if they didn't have the 2nd pick they wouldn't have traded Darnold, so that obviously means they think Lawrence and Wilson are better than him, but not necessarily Lance, Fields, or Jones. If one of those guys makes it all the way to Carolina at 8 I'll bet they still take one, but that's the only way they would.

Well if Atlanta doesn't take one, or doesn't trade out to NE or Denver, or whoever, one of them will fall there. Even if they do, one still might. Either Jones or Fields, depending on who SF takes.

And not a mobile QB who had to completely re-learn his game after a horrific injury?

It is as though folks don’t remember that Bridgewater’s injury is only made less bad by the likes of Alex Smith! It wasn’t certain Bridgewater was ever going to play again, so good on him for meriting consideration as a starter... but he ain’t.

Hey if Darnold blows for two more years in a new place, fine... But his situation, supporting cast, coaching, etc... I mean WHAT was his positive with the Jets?

Don't really see what he used to be, nor what he had to overcome, as admirable as it is, as relevant in the comparison of what he can do today vs Darnold.

If I had one game to win, I'd take TeddyB over Darnold every day.

Are you oblivious to how bad his injury was? Minnesota didn’t let him go due to performance. They gave up on him because they knew he would never be what they drafted him for...

I'd be more unsure myself. Teddy seems to be lacking in the arm department preferring to throw the short passes. Sort of like Alex Smith in that regard. Donald has the arm but is lacking at a lot of other area's. I'd rather have a third choice.

I think the biggest upgrade that anyone got is Darnold going from Gase to Joe Brady. I am actually excited for the kid now.

And that has nothing to do with what he can or cannot do today...still missing the relevancy???

What good does it do to reminisce about what he used to be?
The question presented..is Darnold an upgrade on TeddyB...has zero to do with what Teddy used to be, had potential to be...and everything to do with what he is today.
No idea what difference it makes what he used to be. If what he used to be matters, I guess I take Peyton Manning. or Brees. Or maybe Favre?

agree with this - Gase has ZERO business running an offense in today's NFL. I'm sure there's plenty that would debate that he never had any business doing that to begin with. Boring to watch, easy to defend, terrible for fantasy....that's the trifecta of horseshit for an NFL offensive mind.

there's probably 5-6 college coordinators that I'd prefer over Gase if I were a GM or owner, let alone the # of college HC's that would be better.

Then when you get beyond Gase, you also have an extremely inept NYJ front office...so many red flags, I can't see how it's possible that Darnold isn't better off anywhere else than NYJ, especially while he's still young.

as of today, in the "you have one game to win" scenario, give my TeddyB with a healthy CMC. But that leash would be very short.

I see what you’re saying. What I’m saying is that Bridgewater is being given more credit than is due BECAUSE of what he was. Either way, I get that at this point in time, you do take Bridgewater to win one game. Give Darnold a season or two of a Non-Toxic environment with some solid QB coaching and maybe he realizes his potential, Clearly Carolina sees it that way and I agree with the move.

Very likely, but at a reduced pay.
Less money but a chance at a ring maybe.

Side note: for all you Mixon truthers...I would wager a shiny penny they draft someone like a Kenneth Gainwell and his position is unchanged.
