Is it okay in here? Should it be in the food thread instead?

If you drink wine, what type do you prefer?

I like most reds. With whites, I only like them if they're super dry like dry chardonnays or dry rieslings.

Here's a test you can take that can predict the type of wine you might like. It asks questions about your tastes that have nothing to do with wine.

I enjoy a good bottle every now and then and have even made a few 6 gallon batches myself. As for reds,I prefer shiraz or a good cab. Whites,I prefer pinot grigio or sometimes a chardonnay.

Your link wouldn't load on my phone so I'll take a look at it later if I get a chance.

I've always wanted to make wine. I've heard that it's easier than homebrewing beer.

Sounds like you enjoy moderate to heavy oak. Same here.

Pinot Noirs and zinfandels are generally my favorite reds. They're good year round. Sometimes (like now) when it's really hot I'll do white wine, but it's usually really simple stuff... sauvignon blanc, generally.

Haven't shelled out money for a really good bottle in quite a while.

Making wine from supplied home kits is really easy and comparable to extract brewing for beer. I order the kit and it supplies the juice and fining/stabilizing agents. Pretty simple and kits range from around 70-175 dollars give or take. Not bad for about 30 bottles.

I like wine and making it, ;)

With as many hokies here that make beer, wine, or other spirits (Franklin county's finest), we really will have to get together one of these days. Granted your family's winery is really the only professionals of the bunch, but I'm sure it'd be a good time.

I'm going to get one of those kits.

Going to open a bottle of Pacific Rim Dry Riesling tonight. It's totally decent for a $10 bottle.

We make an Alsatian style Riesling that is dry as a bone. I love it. It has won quite a few awards too. Perfect for hot ass nights like tonight.

Wow, I want some. LOL.

I love rieslings with as close to zero residual sugar as possible.

Like you said, great for summer.

Will do, most definitely. I don't see myself over there for awhile, honestly.

I think I'm going to order a few bottles of the Riesling. I'll let you know how I like them.

Thanks, again.

Lets plan a tailgate! I know I will be down for the Pitt game.

That would be cool and I'll look into our schedule. Maybe you should set up a thread on the vt forum about tailgate meets. I'm sure that several people may want to join in. I'd love to get back for a game but planning with a 7 month old may be a little challenging for this fall.

That quiz actually worked for me.

I only drink red wines.... I don't like most white and dont have time to try to appreciate them....

Love wine and beer. While living in wine country (Amador County) and 2 hours away from NAPA, there are sooooo many to like. Over all, I drink red and stay away from whites. The more oak flavor, the better for me. I will try just about anything and will buy cheap bottles of wine for under $10 with 90+ points. My over all favorite, Silveroak and SIMI.

Not really that much of a fan unless I'm drinking it while eating a nice lunch or dinner. My favorite has to be the ice-wines (eiswein).
