He's been a hokie lean since he came onto the scene in the 8th-9th grade..... it would be a major fail and disappointment for him to go somewhere else IMO

Biggest comp is South Carolina. Not so much Clemson. His cousin is Pierson Prioleau.

Biggest comp. is probably Clemson. He doesn't seem to be all that high on big city atmospheres like Columbia... which should earn major points for the Blacksburg area!

Here's a free scout video interview with him that was done 3 or 4 games into his freshman year in 2010.... when asked who his early favorites are he says VT is at the top. Scout.com: Looking Ahead: Caleb Kinlaw

Ahh yes. You guys sparked my memory on his ties to VT. Think that was discussed awhile back. Don't think it is crucial to get a RB this year but getting him next year would be great..Hope we get him

I don't want to be a party pooper about Caleb Kinlaw, but I believe he had an older brother by the name of Rodney Kinlaw. Tech recruited Rodney very hard for the 2003 Class but he ended up going to PSU. Clemson was also a big player for Rodney.

Kenny Lewis ended up being the only RB we signed for 2003, but he went off to play major league baseball for the next three years. We also recruited Tyrone Moss (Miami), Joey Razzano (Kentucky), and Keon Lattimore (Maryland). Razzano actually committed to Tech but jumped to Kentucky late in the game because he failed to qualify academically.

So, when it was all said and done, we actually ended up with no RBs in the Class of 2003.

How is that relevant to Caleb though? His brother was perennially injured at Penn State, was buried on their depth chart for most of his career, and was rumored to have regretted his decision on going there. VT has been tops on Caleb's list since at least his freshman year, and is still on top now. VT just reeled in one of the best RB classes in the country this past year, and Caleb could very well be a prime candidate to take the torch when the 2012 guy's eligibility expires. This kid is very good, very bright, has a Hokie alum family member, likes small town country atmospheres, and plays at a position that has seen a whole lot of success at VT..... we are in as good of a shape with him as we are with any other prospect out there.

We were "tops" on Rodney Kinlaw's list, too....until he committed to PSU. Haven't we seen that before...more than once?

People need to stop depending on friend and family ties in college football recruiting. Sometimes that goes well, sometimes it doesn't.

Well -- nothing's a given in recruiting but having "good" family ties can't possibly hurt unless that family member had a bad experience at Virginia Tech. That's helped us a lot more than hurt us over the years. If I were a high school RB on the East Coast, I would definitely have my eye on a VT ... same goes for the DB positions. Our success there can't be ignored. The only thing that will hurt us in this recruiting cycle is our depth at RB .. and that's not a bad thing.

It would hurt if the family/friend were successful elsewhere, but the majority of the time, families/friends seem to do quite well at VT. More than when siblings or sons go elsewhere.

not trying to stir the pot but i dont think anyone is saying that the reason he is considering VT is just because of his family ties, I think that is just an extra selling point to go along with everything else Vt has to offer.

How successful has VT been in the last 10 years with recruiting Hokie family members? How many legacy players do we have just on the 2012 football team? Like atleast 10-12? Of course we aren't going to get all of them, but based on our history, it sure doesn't hurt.

Family members or not, the guy is probably going to be one of the best RB recruits on the east coast and a top player in the talent rich state of South Carolina.... and he has had VT as his #1 for years now. What's the problem with this?

Just the same ol same ol....Dorian O'Daniel seemed more excited than Fuller, but both enjoyed it.

Good recruit757.com article on Marshawn Williams:

Hampton RB Talks Virginia Tech Offer And Future Plans

QUOTE:

Marshawn Williams is already 6-0 and 210 as a sophomore. He’s a rising star for the Crabbers that local fans will be able to enjoy watching for two more seasons before he takes off for college ball. Speed, Size, Strength, Endurance, and Smarts… that’s an attractive combination.
