I'd like to see consistent playing time for guys like Boucher, JJ.
Boucher I thought was given a good chance last season but played like a rookie. Hoping he becomes the real deal. JJ I think is a career 3rd liner, but he needs to be given a fair chance. If the guy gets hurt again this season, think its time to trade him. He is a bit fragile.

We can forget about Tedenby for now since he is playing in the KHL next season.

I'd also like Matteau to be a mainstay as well. I think he can still be productive as a checking line player while at the same time working toward becoming, ideally, a 2nd line type (Clarksonesque).

Briefly forgot about Matteau. Yes, another good name and hoping to see him in the lineup. He is young, but built to play in the NHL. Lets hope he isn't remembered as the player the Devils should have given up in the draft.

Anybody else? They drafted a few forwards in the last 2 drafts, although 2nd round an up. It would be good to see a successful rookie name out of nowhere this season on this team.

I would personally prefer to see Boucher and Matteau in Albany again. There's zero need to rush them up. As mentioned Matteau has the frame to be a legit NHLer but needs the experience and has to put everything together. Boucher also only really has about half a pro season under his belt since he spent a lot of time up here but didn't necessarily play a ton. Also, it's hard to see who they would be bumping from the current top 9.

Do we have any interest in Ales Hemsky or is he more of what we already have? Another Czech, has goal scoring ability but I believe he's been pretty displeased with this time in Edmonton. UFA, just rejected a 3 year $10 million deal from Ottawa.

Paul Stastny is a solid player that I would love here. His father played here, he's a legit 20 goal guy, Lou loves Americans. I think he'd be a solid fit, only 28.

What are the rules regarding restricted free agents? Are draft picks involved?

Looking at that list O'Rielly and Johansen really stick out. Could even throw a wrench into the Rangers plans and offer Krieder or Zuccarello a big contract.

i would love to have krider as much as i hate the rangers i think he is going to be good.

draft picks are always involved but im not sure how it breaks down to how many you have to give up.

rangers would match ANY offer for krider though they would have to

It varies and is a sliding scale but it doesn't seem worth it. Per wikipedia:

In 2008 a team that signed a restricted free agent to a salary averaging $2,615,625 to $3,923,437 per season lost a first-round draft pick and a third-round draft pick to the player’s former team.
Signing a restricted free agent to a contract worth over $6,539,062 per year costs a team four first-round draft picks.

Wow that's an insane amount of compensation.

figure a guy getting 6+ million should be a 70-80pt player. 4 draft picks isn't bad for that considering how we draft.

go ahead take our 4 draft picks......tedenby....jj....larrson...mattuea no loss there.

Looking again at our cap, we really should use a buyout. I'll be pretty angry if we do not. We have $14 million in free space. Need to sign a backup goaltender, lock up Larsson and JJ, let's assume we spend 4 million on those 3 we have 10, maybe another million to round out the 4th line we have enough room for 1 top tier player.

Buyout Clowe (4.85) or Sal (won't happen, 3.1) and that gives you much more breathing room.

Figure Krieder is due atleast a double pay raise so somewhere around 2 mil. Why not offer him closer to 3.5 over 4 years? We get better and knock the Rags in the process.

Can't see it happening but I'd love it if it did.

personally i would buyout volchenkov since he has i think 2 or 3 years left after this season.

salvador is gone after this season.

clowe you can't buyout not after you just gave him that contract. it just looks insanely bad and if and thats a BIG IF can return to being healthy he is pretty good

Volchenkov is an option as well. At the end of the day buying a guy out is the difference between being able to afford 1 top tier free agent versus 2. As it stands signing a guy and trading for another seems to be the only realistic way to add 2 impact players.

Volch would be my choice too. He's better then Bryce but the price difference is too big to ignore plus it wouldnt be too popular to release a guy the team chose as captain.

If Larsson is going to be here next year and going to play more then what he was playing last year then its important a spot on D is available. Not to say just give him a spot no matter what but I think the team needs to know exactly what they have.

I'd luv to see Krieder here... why aren't the NYR(not fans) high on him again?

Im not sure what Vignault's feelings are toward him but Torts was never sold on Krieder for whatever reason. Id guess some behind the scenes stuff.

Can't say I'm crazy about any of this really. May not use the buyout, and possibly bringing back the 4th line. Gionta on the cheap I could live with but if any of them are cracking a million it's too much.
