Thing is, id take a look at Diontae Spencer. Guy has proven he can be valuable as a return man. He can FLY. THey keep running him outside. See what he can do in the slot.

ESPN has eli rogers on the team

WIDE RECEIVER (6): JuJu Smith-Schuster, Donte Moncrief, James Washington, Ryan Switzer, Diontae Johnson, Eli Rogers

As a third-round rookie, Johnson would have to fall awfully flat in camp to lose a roster spot. Washington and Moncrief will battle for a starting role on the outside. Keeping six receivers is hardly a lock, but Switzer was second in receptions last season among Pittsburgh's returning wide receivers and has kick return value, while Rogers is still a good matchup receiver against man coverage.

Not buying Holton making the squad. I'm sure he's basing that belief off of the loss of DHB. Specifically, a ST gunner. DHB was logging over 200 snaps on ST each season for the Steelers. Holton was a similar player for Oakland. But I have my eyes on the stable of DBs being used as gunners this year. The WR room is simply too deep & talented for a ST type WR. Seems like it would take an injury for that to happen. Even then I like Trey Griffey as a prospect more than Holton, given that he gives the group some size.

But I've been wrong before! WR5 & WR6 is sort of wide open right now. I used to think Switzer was a lock for his return duties, but not after drafting Diontae Johnson. I still like Switzer to lock in the slot role over Rodgers, but both can & would be useful if kept around.

He's basing it on ST play like you said, but I think they will go with 6 WRs.

With 3 slot type WRs, I think Rogers might be slightly more of a playmaker than Switzer, but I still think Rogers will be the odd man out. Switzer connected with Ben early LY and that will only grow in yr 2 for him as a Steeler.

S...I'm thinking 10 DBs, he has 11 total. I don't see a need for 5 S.

they were talking mccullers on the radio last night, they were shocked hes still on the team, but think he makes it through camp. They also were split on burns

I keep saying Burns starts or is trade/released, but there are people that think it's possible for him to make it as a reserve. The key for McCullers making it again is if Buggs can't handle the back up NT job.

curious, what about the year before?

Well...LAR transitioned from a 43 front to a 34 front. For a CB that might not impact your performance much assuming there are still getting a similar amount of pressure on the QB. But a LB? I can see a big performance change. It could very well be that his skills are just falling off too.

I'm just not overly concerned with his stats as a Ram under that circumstance.

In the same vein of our recent discussions... Curious how we all see it.

Locks: JuJu, Crief, Washington, Johnson.
Best of the rest (favorites to win): Switzer, Rodgers.

That leaves the rest as darkhorses:
T Griffey
D Spencer
J Holton
T Jones

Seeing as they have 3 capable return guys in Johnson, Switzer & Rodgers... I'd like to see them move one of those guys for a bigger body to give Ben more size in the RZ. Not to mention the top 3-4 guys in this group are incredibly dynamic and capable of rotating anywhere within the X, Y, Z WR roles.

Hate to see an athlete like Rodgers get cut loose, but I think he's my early cut. Griffey & Holton are both 6'3". I haven't seen anything about Holton's game but he played in the AAF for a brief time. Need to dig up some tape. Griffey plays big, even if he doesn't have many other refined tools to bring to the table. If Holton has more athleticism then I'd like to see him get more looks.

Unless of course he's asking for the darkhorse from the players that make the team and have a huge impact....

I'm all in on Crief. I think Washington takes the leap and has a good year, but I'm expecting Crief to explode.

Honestly... Twitter is the best site for updates on camp. A bunch of different twitter handles ran by guys that are simply regurgitating everything they find from beat reporters to fans at practices.
