That Goldsmith call on Santana's game winner was great though. I'm a sucker for calls with emotion. Some teams have wet fish calling their games and it stinks.

Great win. Beating the BJs ace in game three and then our ace holding them at bay so we can win game four.

That being said.......Logan Gilbert got totally fucked on an all star nod. Nestor Cortez and Gerrit Cole make the team and Gilbert doesn't? Bullshit. Once again, MLB is playing up their flagship franchises and totaling fucking the smaller market teams.

You guys should look at Ty France’s numbers for 1B and tell me how he’s not an AS. What an absolute snub.
Ty is one of my top three favorite players on the team. But he's really dropped since June first. In his last 24 games he is hitting .234 with 9 RBI. If he had kept his pace up that he had in April and May, it would have been hard to deny him an All Star berth.

That should still be a validation to him making the AS roster despite his drop off and injury. Still leading the AL amongst 1B for OPS, SLG, and OBP. Unless they only decide to cherry pick which metric is deserving of an “All-Star”

Havent been able to jump on as much lately but man what a 3 weeks its been. They havent had this kind of three week run since like 2002.

This feels more real then last year but at the same time there are still some holes and concerns. Regardless the other WC teams are equally as flawed so I hope Jerry sees this as a time to finally add on. Depth in the bullpen, rotation and maybe 2B would all be good needed adds.

I’d lean towards adding depth to the bullpen.

Starting pitching is scary good. And if they can get Ray going in the second half, watch out.

My main concern is Kirby being limited and also theres numbers to suggest Marco and or/ Logan could regress a bit.

We've been fortunate not to have any Starting Pitchers miss a start due to injury. That's basically unheard of nowadays. I'd just hate to be unprepared for something that could inevitably happen

Yeah, I'd still add a big starter, not really a middling #4 or #5. A wild card spot is a 3 game series now. Imagine being able to run out Ray, Gilbert, and someone like Montas for that series. You'd match up against Boston, Minnesota, or Tampa very well there.

Lots of ways of looking at this.

Up until we just took over (or tied) one of the WC spots, the other 3 were all taken by teams from the AL East.

With all of the interdivisional games, especially down the stretch, it's very unlikely you would get 3 WC's all from one division. In fact, you kind of have to have some suckage in both of the other divisions to even have two from the same, but for sure possible.

So with those 3 all ripping each other apart over the next couple of months the question is who else that isn't them is in contention:

Cleveland and the Sox from the central - Both have schedules harder than the M's, but not crazy bad.

Texas and the Angels behind the M's. Both have more games against current + .500 teams than the M's do.

The M's right now face 12 games in the second half against teams currently +.500 and all will be completed by Aug 10th. Their last 49 are against teams below .500 right now.

What we know about this sport is the second half can be quite different from the first. Arms get tired, injuries mount up, teams get hot or cold and get streaky. The M's need at least one more starting pitcher IMO. The fact they are stashing Kirby now to save his arm is proof they have concerns for their rotation making it all the way to the end.

They will get Haniger and Lewis back and Kelenic has been doing much better in Tacoma, but they could still use at least one more bat as well, preferably 2nd base.

Still, it's good to have these streaks and watch some of the younger kids get to perform in games where they can have fun and enjoy winning for a change.

Well there is the rumor of Ohtani being available

His strike out rate is phenomenal: 2 strikes outs per inning pitched ( that is elite level )

batting avg against him is a little high. and his W-L record is atrocious. BB rate is a tad higher than I like, he throws a lot of pitches to each batter to strike out so many, and will walk more guys than avg.

Not sure of his velocities on his fastball still in mid to upper 90's? His slider is his strikeout pitch.
I would love to have a hometown kid on the bump for the Mariners.
