Do you feel most are sufficiently powered?

"most" probably aren't.
todays generation of drivers are pussies for the most part and don't know the difference anyway.
they would rather text and talk on the phone than to push that right pedal to the floor and merge with traffic.

100hp or 500hp, they are all going 45mph when they get on the interstate.

Some of them accelerate rather quickly, granted you get a lot of that 4 Banger engine wind but they get up and go fairly well. I ask cause I just test drove two this weekend and was fairly impressed. It takes me forever to buy a car and thought I had THEEE ONE picked but then my credit union can land me a killer price on a quality 4 banger.

I need to see if they will let me take on the highway for an hour or so.

I think the NA 4bangers are a little underpowered. Our last car had one and it was ok except when you had to get on the highway and it would shut the A/C off. Not fun in Texas heat. I went out of my way to get a V6 for the family car this time around.

More companies are finally coming around to putting turbos on I-4's. Makes sense. Speed and gas mileage...win/win.

NA?

Turbos are nice until they break and they tend to break a lot. I have owned mostly V6s I know I gave my kid my 95 Accord LX V6 the Accord 4 Banger I drove today seemed to have as much power as that car.

new engines are creating all kinds of power. there is a 3.8 V6 on the Chrysler 200's that make 290 horsepower. Thats more than muscle cars came with unless you bought the big block. They are also getting almost 30 mpg.

I dont know if the four cylinders dont have enough or the six cylinders are producing too much. Squeezing 1hp per cubic inch creates alot of wear and tear.

NA = naturally aspirated = no turbo

Turbo's have come a long way, may still have some to go. I4 has bridged a lot of the V6 gap as well. V6 has also bridged a lot of the V8 gap. The V6 Stang will put out as much as a 5.0 v8 from a few years ago, a 300HP V6 stock. Crazy stuff.

Remember though that a new I4 will always seem to have more "pep" than an older v6.

My wife has owned 3 Hondas all with 4cyl's. 2 Accords and 1 Civic.
I'll admit that I was impressed with the power they put out.
I never have had a problem getting on the highway with one, or passing, or anything.
Plenty of power.

If you still drive like you're 16yrs old and punching it all the time and acting like a jackass and blowing by people, then most 4cyl's probably wont do it for you.

Driving a 4 banger nissan truck in the mountains = nightmare. I wouldn't recommend it.

I once owned a 1992 Ford Ranger. It had a 4cyl in it, I think it was a 2.0
Had a 5spd with A/C.
It was the most pathetic engine ever. In the summer with the A/C on you couldn't keep it in 5th gear at highway speeds. Always had to gear down to 4th to get your speed back. Especially bad if you had a head wind.
It took a mile, literally to get up to 55mph at full throttle.

However, it was the best pickup ever. It had 20,000 miles when I bought it, I put 70,000 on it, then it went to my daughter and then my 2 sons as they each turned 16yrs old and learned to drive, and each drove it for a year before they got something else.

It ended up with 160,000 miles on it and still ran great when I sold it. Never had a mechanical problem with it.

It just wouldn't get up and go.

I have a 2010 Accord with a 4 banger and it has plenty of power. Its night and day compared to the 2000 Civic it replaced.

I remember my '88 5.0 had a whopping 225 HP to the crank. Damn, that's slow compared to today's standards. A lot of 4 bangers can beat that now days. Better designs have made for more efficient HP.
