Playing the infield in, 2 outs, 3rd inning, scoreless game against the Mets ... strategy that makes me bash my head against the wall.

Naturally it backfired but only because the team's hitting philosophy dictated that 1-0 would be the final score.

If you have any remote idea how to manage an offense, you don't play the infield IN in the 3rd inning of a scoreless tie against a AAA batting order.

Baseball 101 agrees. The problem is, when the flair drops in, it goes on the pitchers ERA, not the guy directing the D.

If they assigned errors to managers, Dusty wouldn't win a gold glove.

Reason # 221 why you fire Dustbucket at seasons end: batting Dudwick 2nd with Billy Hamilton on the bench. This is another incredibly stupid move in a must game. hasn't batted their all year, but today, Dustmop puts him at the 2 hole. WOW!

Apparently batting second is Dusty's way of rewarding Ludwick for pointing out the clear source of the Reds' problems: the fans.....

There were boos for Luddy after his last K.

Maybe he'll bitch about that too. I'm rapidly not liking Mr. Potato head, Whynan Spudwick.

Maybe Dusty nor Spudwick appreciate the cheers for the upstart Hamilton, who hasn't payed his Dusty dues by being in a Bafoon Platoon before getting an opportunity to be in the lineup, I guess. Besides BP suggested BH in the lineup, and he'd back up, so DB had to have his own idea. This is uh... different...except he's back to a hitless guy in the 2 hole. What was wrong with Choo, BP, Votto, Bruce if BH won't play, we actually scored runs like that...

Phillips, who has 12 hits in his last 60 at-bats (or about 15 games) ... is in no position to advocate for anybody, IMO.

I'd have to second that opinion John. When your slash line for September in a Pennant Race is .196/.265/.250, BP should be advocating for someone to take his spot in the lineup.

Ryan Ludwick talked the talk and walked the walk.......back to the dugout four times to a chorus of boos. Way to go stud, you energized the crowd.

Another putrid performance for underachieving Reds. All but ready to mail it in, they will play 2 more against the Pirates. Morton has pitched well at GABP and the Reds just don't seem interested in playing baseball anymore. What really pisses me off, is Dustbucket putting Ludwick in the 2 hole. Isn't that a guy that is suppose to move runners over, make contact, and hit for average? This piece of shit swings at every fucking pitch and continuously gets himself in a hole in the count. Great 2 hole hitter huh? This is the bafoonery that will doom the Reds. They aren't good enough to beat the other team while at a disadvantage when the manager fucks up the lineup card up. I have never witnessed such idiocy in 40 years of baseball on a Reds team. When will the insanity end? You can argue Narron and Ray Knight were bad coaches til you are blue in the face but you would never convince me they were this stupid. Plus, Knight and Narron didn't even come close to having this level of talent. The Reds fans have every right to boo this level of play. They would be better served to start the "Fire Dustmop" chant NOW!

Agreed, Houston has more energy than this team, and someone (Dusty, and now Ludwick) needs to go.
If they lose easily in Pittsburgh this Tuesday. I think there might be a chance of Dusty being fired. If the owners have the balls to do it

Batting Ludwick second for one game is a mistake. Batting Ludwick second for TWO games is unacceptable and quite frankly a slap in the face.

I agree, eburg, if the Reds drop at least 2 of the final 3 games (including the WC), I think there's a chance the Reds fire Dusty. I've never seen a playoff team play with such little enthusiasm down the stretch. It's up to the manager to get them fired up, and Dusty has done the opposite of that. I'm sure the Reds front office would take flak from the baseball world if they fired Dusty, but I think they would have proper justification. The whole month of September for the Reds is reason enough. This year was the year that the Reds were supposed to take the next step. They were widely regarded as World Series contenders, and they grossly underachieved based on those expectations.

In all fairness, most people on the team have contributed to the so far, miserable end of the season. Dusty has always had a different view on lineups, but in his defense, he's used a few with no result, but it's the body language that bothers me most. You can see the little snippets of frustration, but mostly, the players look hot, tired, slow, depressed. Clubhouse cut up Ludwick made brainless comments criticizing the fans lack of energy, insinuating players low energy was due to the fans. Latos complained of an injury. Dusty is defensive about suggestions of a lack of urgency. Lots of cliches about anything can happen in post season, but the eyes day they dont believe. Players heads are down. Tomorrow, justifiably, Dusty will play a non-playoff roster lineup, as will the Pirates most likely...it's a meaningless game that doesn't justify getting a needed player injured.

Tuesday, in Pittsburgh however, there will be no more corners to back themselves into. No more chances to make up for underperformances. The buck stops there. If the Reds lose, their season is over. I have to wonder how that will be digested with the Reds brass, and with the free agents with a chance to go elsewhere. There is too much talent to dump and start over, but I think the total lack of ability to beat any team down the stretch would suggest that changes are needed.

I will go on record as saying, I think Dusty is good for baseball.
I'd even agree to nominate him to replace Bud Selig.
He's an ambassador for the game. A great guy, deserves to be lauded for his time and his work.
But it's time to replace him as field manager of the Reds.

It pays to realize that losing this series will cost the Reds about $3 million in gate receipts for Tuesday's game.

IF there isn't urgency, there ought to be some fiscal connection to putting an A-game on the field.

The A-game on the field is a result of the toothpicker's decisions. I had quite a laugh last night with a mid draft pick of KC Royals who was a catcher and competed regularly with Mesoraco. Still keeps in touch with Devin because they went to many try outs together since both were catchers. He told me Deven was a good catcher but still hasn't learn to hit. He went on to say that Devin wont learn to hit as long as he is in Cincy with Dusty and his worthless gang of Coaches. That conversation proves that fans and players see the short comings of this coaching staff and DustMop. It is so obvious that I believe it affects the morale of the players because they too have to question some of the moves. I believe it breeds a "don't give a shit attitude" because if the Coach isn't doing everything to win--Why should I? I lay a lot of blame on Dusty but as much if not more should be laid on Jerkoby. This club has over 1200 strike outs this season and consistently fails to make contact with runners on base. Meantime, DustMop compounds the hitting issue with his stupid bull shit. There is no question it is time to clean house especially after the clock cleaning coming Tuesday in Shitzburgh. There is absolutely no chance in hell this team has any life left---TOAST!

I have no more energy to invest in this team.
I will probably go to the casino today, check tonight to see who got hit in the head with a pitch ... and fuck the rest of the season.

The Marlins may have ended on a more positive note than our Reds will.

I hope Dusty gets a sense of urgency on Tuesday. He's out if room to back up. The wall is up his ass now. I can't wait to see what managerial gems he has in store for us. So far, he's made a gaffe in every playoff loss of the Reds, and I guess that means for him, urgency is dangerous.

I'm sure Ludwick will bat 2nd and Phillips 4th.
I don't know if I have ever been less excited about the Reds being in the playoffs. I don't have much confidence that the Reds will advance.

But that actually might be a plus. They always do the opposite of what I think they're going to do.

Well there is hope. WVU went into the Oklahoma St. game yesterday a 19.5 dog at home and won the game 30-21. Miracles do happen cause I can assure you I didn't think WVU had a Chinaman's chance in hell! You know, even if the Reds were to win --then what? You are not gonna take down the Cards or the Braves. Night as well bow out Tuesday and hope these dumbasses in management will clean house and get rid of the trash in the dugout.
