Is that it sends a huge fuck you to Cameron Rupp. By the time Ruiz's contract expires, Rupp will be 28. If he gets off to a hot start in AA, we should be looking to move him. He will be 25, and a catcher with decent pop. Somebody will want him for sure. It's not like we'll be using him.

Few things:

Ruiz will not stay healthy all year. Since they signed him, they should use Ruiz and Rup as the catchers. When Ruiz gets injured, bring up Kratz... wait, can they keep Kratz in the minors or would he have to clear waivers? I always forget how that shit works.

Kratz doesn't have to clear waivers. What good does it do for Rupp to come up for 20 games before being sent down? A bullpen arm or a SS in the minors might actually be used by the Phillies. Barring a 2006 Mike Lieberthal-like season, Rupp won't be playing much this year or next.

I like Cameron Rupp and he may turn out to be a solid catcher, but I don't think it would be the smartest thing to do to throw him into the fire and make him be a starter this soon - they have to work him in and let him play 50-55 games or so and progress him that way

Catchers are the one position where you can't throw them into the fire and have them as starters in their first full season, you have to work them in and let them get an X amount of games the first year and progress from there

some of you guys are being overly dramatic. Sure they overpaid for Ruiz, but with the tv money they should have plenty left over to lock up Mayberry long term.....

Classic post

It's really not a hard formula to follow. You just take bullshit and divide it by homerism, multiply by excuses, and just add retarded and the formula calculates 95 wins for the Phillies every year.

Hating all that high-paid, older, experienced talent? Look at the positive side of things. Next year, you'll have a great excuse for getting smashed out of your minds before each game so you'll have little clarity watching old guys on the Phils go about their winning ways. You might even get to like them as the wins pile up.

No, my thinking is that Ruiz should play 90-100 games and Rup catches the other 60-72.

This ain't no 85-90 win team, unless the rest of the AL East forfeits a bunch of games.

.500 is what they can hope for.

70-80 wins is what can be expected.

Which is why a Kratz/Molina and Rupp platoon would have been just fine and a fuck load cheaper.

If you ook at the lifetime BA and RISP comps for the 3 players, it is clear that you win more games with Ruiz.

molina life .238; risp .216 K% 20%,
kratz _life .220; risp .211 K% 20%

ruiz __life .274; risp .293 K% 11%
