I don't blame that early goal on Fleury because it was deflected off Letang's stick. Tough to give up the first shot on goal, but not necessarily his fault.

Even though it became irrelevant because the Pens scored 7 unanswered goals, I don't see how that goal wasn't awarded to Pittsburgh during that review. This could have cost the Pens the game, because if it had been awarded, that short-handed-goal by NJ would have been wiped out. Toronto F'd that review up, IMO.

True, Pens probably should've scored 10 goals last night.

Man, looks more and more like the Pens should have shipped Letang years ago before giving him that huge contract. He is horrible...most of the D is pretty bad, olli included

I agree scouty, now Tang is afraid to shoot the puck on the power play :L

GFA: 2.56
GAA: 1.67
PP%: 17.2%

Pittsburgh Penguins
Overall record: 5-2-1 (11 points)
Home record: 3-2-0
Streak: +2
GFA: 4.12
GAA: 2.75
PP%: 40.6%
PK%: 81.8%
Projected roster: NHL Starting Goalies and Line Combinations | DailyFaceoff.com

Series notes
All-time: Kings lead series 71-58-3 plus 18 ties
Last season: tied 1-1
Last meeting: 3-27-2014 @ CONSOL Energy Center, Kings won 3-2

Doob's take: this will be a tough one, Kings are the defending Stanley Cup champs and coming off a loss, they will be extra motivated to win this one. Meanwhile, the Pens are clicking on all cylinders the past 2 games. Gonna pick the Kings to prevail 3-2, but hopefully the Pens will raise their game and prove me wrong.

I really don't see much of a problem with the Pens D right now. Looked like Fluery was fighting the puck against NJ. He was making saves, but it seemed like he had to put way too much effort into it. Maybe when they get into a rhythm with the games Fluery will settle down. It must be hard playing one game and then having almost a week off.

Most true breakdowns I've seen are on the forward side. The defense has been pretty good as far as limiting mistakes, sorting out the rush, or tying up in front of the net.

This should be a very interesting match up for the Pens tonight. LA figures to be the best defensive-minded club that they have faced through the early part of the season. While the Kings also can score with the best of them, they do heavily insulate their goalie, and it looks like they will start their back up Martin Jones instead of Quick. Maybe that will be an advantage for Johnston and company.

I agree. I like the way Johnston has them playing so far.

Even Scuderi hasn't been awful. He hasn't been good, but he's played a lot better so far this year than he did last year.

Letang, Maatta, and Martin have all been really good to start the season, and Despres has been more good than bad. He played a great game on Tuesday. Ehrhoff and Scuderi have filled their roles.

Adams, Dupuis, and Malkin have been the guys who have stood out for me this season as hurting us defensively, although Dupuis and Malkin have at least been producing on the offensive end.

I guess the Pens must look alright since they're up 2-0. Pity I can't watch games on the NHL Network...

Good thing Quick isn't in net, I don't think those goals get scored if Quick were in net, especially Letang's goal.

They've done well to keep the Kings to the outside and not a lot of chances in front of the net.

Kings inability to not slash or high stick has killed them. Pens haven't generated much of anything 5v5.

Kings are a really cheap team with the sticks, constantly slashing, getting sticks up high, Malkin had enough.

I understand why they are such a good playoff team, definitely the type of crap they let go in the playoffs to the detriment of the league.

Fleury looked sharp in the third, which is all of the game that I saw. I thought for a second he was going to get a goal, too.

Thought Despres had a great game, guy is battling for every inch out there every second. Type of player that you need in the playoffs, leaves it all out there every night.

The penalties are a problem right now, but that should get better with age.

Definitely good to see the Pens not lose it though with all the stick work from the Kings, Malkin got a little testy but nothing ridiculous.

Kings were missing a lot of key players tho.
