Very interesting lineup for the Devils going into this season. Who plays what? I'm rather baffled. Good depth tho.

so stupid.....yeah i know its only on a try out but still this is the best we can get for a try out?

i doubt they make the team but the fact that they are in a position to possibly make the lineup is down right absurd. bring in some more college kids or unsigned draftees.

I suppose it gives the younger guys more incentive to step up and go all out at camp. As a result the older guys may have to step up as well for fear of being passed on the depth chart. I don't think we really need either one, if they were sent to Albany and were strictly injury replacements I'd be ok with that.

Or if they're healthy scratches that can sit in the booth as opposed to young guys being scratched.

It took us a week of collaboration to figure out all the forwards on the team. Its very confusing.

I could see why, very unorthodox roster. Still tho, they got nice pieces, just gotta put them together.

The only shocking thing from that is he's only 34!

Gomez hasn't been relevant for 5 years so it means he was sucking before he even turned 30.

True, nothing to get excited about, but might not be bad on the 4th line or as a reserve. I just thought it was interesting for him to go back to the Devils after all these years.

NHL 15 comes out on September 9th. Can't wait to see their projected Devils' lineup.

Gomez collapsed mentally. Whether he mailed it in after getting paid or if he crumbled under the pressure of A) living up to that contract and B) playing in NYC and Montreal, I'm not sure which. The Devils clearly have a system that supports one another on the ice, it reminds me of the New England Patriots. Countless players have had success there and left only to completely suck with their new team. Gomez fit the Devils system and it made him look better than he actually was.

I really cannot believe he is 34. I thought for sure he was late 30s. Shit, now I feel old.

Remember he was really just a kid when he came up...and the fact that he played with guys like Claude Lemeiux and Mogilny as a rookie didn't hurt

If Gomez stayed in NJ he would still be good. New York ruined him. Not just the pressure but they thought they were getting a goal scorer when we all knew he was an excellent setup player. I remember those fans telling me he should score and why isn't he scoring. They didn't use him right. Then he goes to another pressure cooker like Montreal.
Gomez was always a calm laid back person. He should have not listened to daddy and stayed in NJ..
And Devilsh is right. Pretty sure he made his debut at 18. Seems like he has been around forever though. Even hearing he was 34 kind of surprised me too

Gomez should really look into writing a book or become a motivational speaker to kids who are just drafted or in juniors. Really is a shame why happened to him I use that term lightly since he is filthy rich and has two cups.

Wonder if having all that success so early made him chase the money? Try telling a 25 year old no to 60 million dollars. What's funny is if he stayed with nj he probably would've made that amount over the life of his career. 34 he should still have life in his career not be begging for tryouts

I think it was just his body breaking down. He was never an intense guy and probably didn't focus on his fitness more during his late 20s. There are plenty of guys who start to struggle once they get to the late 20s in all sports. Philly has one in Lecavalier, Mike Richards has been in serious decline and he's only 29.
