I'm fine with 'extending' my coaches contract by eliminating $12M in a buyout and him taking a pay cut next year.

Your school just signed a $95M 10 year contract with a guy that has lucked into 9 wins this year and enjoying his 1st ever winning season as a coach. Congrats.
and only time will tell whether that contract pays off, won't it?
you think/hope it won't...the billionaires funding it think it will...I'll go with the money.

Coach Tucker never admits what we all know - that huge talent and depth disparities exist between his team and every other B1G team (even Nebraska)... The man spends his energy getting the most out of what he's got... and the kids have bought into it... and they've gone from pre-season dumping ground to chasing a major bowl. The huge embarrassing disappointment today hurt bad...we're just hoping that Coach Day isn't nearly as magnanimous with only a 49-pt lead in next week's game's second half.

btw... en route from Denver to Detroit last month we stopped in on LeadBelly for their excellent brews and sammiches

So......

$9.5M for a Decade with a dude that you aren't all that confident about.

Fantastic.

IF MSU can beat Penn St, they will be 10-2, and go to a NY6 bowl. That's a great season for Sparty. If the B1G wants to become a deeper conf, investment must be made. I would like to see how the season plays out and then judge Tuckers performance. A win in a NY6 bowl means alot.

waiting to see how the whole season plays out before making judgement is reasonable... but in haste's defense, it should be noted:

1. Universal expectations/prognostications for MSU in September were B1G East Division bottom of the barrel...at best 4-7
2. Program was in shambles; roster wasn't just anemic it was Biafran; and the unproven Portal was...at best a desperation move
3. The team is now 9-2...many starters are out or hurting...depth has gone from thin to emaciated...PSU is tough W even at full strength
and, oh yes
4. LSU expressed interest in Tucker a month ago; USC and now Florida are needing a HC

yes, going 10-2 then winning a NY6 would mark a spectacular, unbelievable season for State.
however... going 9-3, 10-3 or 9-4 would still be, imo, a promising achievement - for the program and Coach Tucker.

I agree. It's been a surprisingly good season for MSU. I would like to see them do this well every year. For each strong team in the B1G, the leader and eventually Champion,... gets more respect. Like Bama or Georgia has gotten.

Since 2000, Big 12 had two teams win the NC, the ACC has also two. The SEC has had 4. The B1G and PAC12 trail with just one team being able to do it. The numbers speak to overall depth of programs.

PAC12 is technically at zero. There isn’t an 04 Champion.

road to another B1G NC seems pretty straightforward to me:

  1. Crush scUM (again)
  2. Humble Bucky (again)
  3. Smash either over-rated SEC CFP sweetheart... or
  4. Smash them both

(wouldn't it be fun if they gave yall ND to chew on)

If MSU was smart, they'd let LSU throw a brinks truck at Mel. This is not going to end well for them.
