That's not how it works. They hand down their sentence and regardless of whether he appeals or not that's the sentence.

Ok good. I remember one of the ESPN knuckle head reporters said that Cruz may get more penalties if he appealed. Speaking of ESPN, has anyone noticed how much they have talked about Cruz getting suspended? Its seems they are talking about him more than A-Rod! I keep feeling that he could get suspended just because everyone keeps blabbing about it on national television (obviously it doesn't work that way but seriously, its always Cruz they talk about)

I have never thought Ian's size would suffice at 1st base. He appears to short and would not be able to stretch on short hops. Am I wrong?

I think he'd be fine DT. Fairly certain Ian can stretch as much as MM,
Okay, I'm positive he can....and hops no problem
:)

Short? I think they are about the same height...No?
I'd have to look that up

You can tell he was locked in better this time around and his bat speed is ridiculous.

his bat speed is ridiculous, (especially at 32) the first homer he hit in the Series, I was like..."oh yeah, Hamilton" and then,
:L

having said that, I seriously doubt he'll ever return to his 'super-star' (or even 'star') status. He missed too many formative years on how to be a better hitter. It's just pure generational talent with Hamilton...but no discipline, because he was so good, he got away with it...

I'm almost positive that I heard that if they appeal it they could double the suspension. They wanna give him 50 games, but if he appeals they wanna give him 100, as a means to just take the initial suspension

Where did you here he will automatically get 50? I've tried to read as much as I've had time to, and I haven't seen that...
I'm not very optimistic he won't get 50, just curious....and a plea is different than an appeal (which I know you know)

I'm just desperately hoping it won't be 50

that may be true but it sure doesn't sound fair... i mean aren't players entitled a an appeal by the MLBPA. Sort of lame to punish someone for exercising a right you gave them.

but then again using PEDs isn't all that fair either.

Well the thing is they have so much evidence on all of these guys that they know that the only reason they are appealing is to play out the season with their respective teams

I heard them saying the same thing on 103.3 ESPN radio today. Maybe just MacMahon freaking out over nothing and being super pessimistic as usual

Absolutely. It would be outrageous if they did that, but the fact that they might keeps Cruz from trying to lower the suspension time

I think the players should be allowed to appeal, especially when you consider that MLB had this evidence for a long time, yet kept all the teams involved in limbo until AFTER the trade deadline. Do you know how stupid that is? How is a team supposed to know whether or not they need to replace a player. It sucks that teams are seemingly getting punished for a player that may or may not have violated MLB's PED policy.

Like I've said, its a crapshoot, b/c MLB is making shit up as they go, they are having a witch hunt and there are going to eventually be lawsuits

MLB: "derrrrr, we have a drug policy, but we can't catch as many people as we thought"

Colon, Grandal, Cabrera: "We bought our shit from Biogenesis"

MLB: "derrr, give us your records, Biogenesis"

Biogenesis: "OK!"

MLB: "ok, we know it says we need a failed drug test to suspend you, but we have your "names" on documents, thats the same thing! Drug test failed.... and if you argue, more games suspended!!!!"

Its nonsensical, if thats how you wanted it to be, write it that way from the start, don't make it up as you go

I would have lifetime respect for Cruz if he appealed just so he could help out our offense. Seriously. Dont care if he used roids, so did everyone else. He wouldn't be all about the money. He would just be trying to help this team out especially since they didn't do anything at the deadline. If he does that he immediately becomes one of my favorites

Here's what I bet happened with Cruz if he is guilty:

Recall that shortly after the WS loss to the Cards Cruz got a nasty stomach virus back in DR. He tried to get treatment there but was not having any luck getting better and was losing a ton of weight. This is when he went to go see a "specialist" in Miami. My guess is some Dr. in DR suggested that he get a steroid shot or series of them to boost his immune system. Knowing that he was not supposed to use them at any cost, through some contacts he found out about Biogenesis and flew to Miami. And then started to recover and stayed to work out with Napoli.

This seems about right to me anyway. I personally don't think he used them to better his performance, b/c if he did they sure didn't work. He had a career low year. And now in a season where he is being investigated and not likely to be using, he is having a career high year. I guess either way though, its a moot point because players are not to use steriods or PEDs under any circumstances.

Here's a little article reminder of when Cruz got sick: Rangers Nelson Cruz after World Series: ?Everything I ate, I threw up? | Texas Rangers Blog

Steroids are a legit medical treatment though, if thats what was needed, he should've just gone through the proper channels if that was the case, he would've been fine had it been documented properly

Really? I was under the impression that they couldn't even use them as a legitimate medical treatment. Well, if this is the case, either throw my theory out the window or maybe Cruz was as ignorant about the PED rules as I am.

I mean, you have to document the hell out of it, prior permission, doctor's submissions, probably administered by a MLB approved physician etc... but its legit, sometimes steroids are the best treatment, to deny people the best treatment alternative would once again be opening themselves up to some serious lawsuits
