Pure awesomeness...

Credit Newberg Report...

From Matt Mosley (Fox Sports Southwest): The Rangers rookie pitcher is supremely confident, as evidenced by a story Jon Daniels told on 103.3 KESN-FM radio show Wednesday. Rangers top prospect Martin Perez recently asked Darvish how he fared in his first intra-squad scrimmage. Darvish told him he pitched “OK” and asked how Perez had done in his first outing. Perez smiled and said it only took him 12 pitches to complete his inning.

Darvish then instructed his translator to ask Perez how old he was.

Informed that Perez was 20, Darvish responded, “Tell him I already had a Cy Young by then.”

He had won a Eiji Sawamura Award

And Darvish won it when he was 21

Given that fellow members of the 2005 draft class, Justin Upton got a six-year, $51.25 million contract in March 2010 and in the offseason after the 2010 season Jay Bruce signed a six-year, $51 million deal, McCutcheon's deal makes a lot more sense

Thanks. Sorry missed this post. Upton ought to be miffed. Way I see it ... a longer contract potentially instills and protects mediocrity.

Thats what happens when you sign first and become a trend-setter, in fairness Bruce and McCutcheon should be miffed that Upton set the bar so low

Maybe, but when you bring a .216 post all-star break average into negotiations and somebody offers you 51 million what else do you bring to the table besides a pen in your hand.

So I haven't really been following ST or any of the box scores...anything worth noting?

Not really. Feliz looked much better in his second start and Darvish looked worse in his second than first (fastball location). Olt is showing some power to the gaps with a triple against the Indians. Perez has been less than impressive.

Olt has always had power. It's just the major holes in his swing and him chasing bad pitches that has been his downside.

He looked like he was showing better plate discipline in the at bats I saw.

Looks like Perez will be spending most the season in AAA, and just remember he's only 21, still very young for AAA

Its just a command of his pitches issue, he'll figure it out

Im not worried. The stuff is there and he's still a very young kid. I am encouraged to see that Feliz is making improvements each time he throws. Darvish's stuff is every bit as nasty as advertised. He just had trouble commanding the fastball 94mph in his last start. The Maddux brothers will help him take care of that.

Not to mention Darvish has been pitching out of the stretch the whole time,

Not sure why this is the case as I haven't heard an official justification for it yet

My initial guess is that its a part of his game he needs to work on, but thats just my initial guess
