YT's 33% CS was behind Napoli's 36% and Teagarden's 54%. Only Treanor's overall 26% was lower.

Defensive utility rate YT's E + PB + WP rate per inning compared to Napoli.

YT: 9E + 7PB + 25WP = 41/823 = .050 E, PB or WP per inning
MN: 2E + 1PB + 14WP = 17/506 = .036 E, PB or WP per inning

.050/.036 = .39 or YT's E + PB +WP rate with same staff was 39% higher than Napoli's rate.

CERA ... YT 4.33CERA ... MN 3.18CERA.

Napoli (no GG catcher himself) ... was far and away a more agile and defensively effective catcher than YT.

YT ... is a defensive liability and unless he's off scale high offensively ... he's a 33yo sub potential sea anchor ... classic definition of a spare.

No one was even saying that Torrealba should start, so comparing the two is just ridiculous

I don't think there is a soul on this board saying YT had a better year than Napoli anyway, SO STOP COMPARING THE TWO

I even stated that YT was tolerable as a backup and just a backup, didn't even say he wasn't a spare, which would almost be implied considering that he's the BACKUP catcher on a team

Keep trying to talk your way out of this one, you're just talking yourself in circles now

The problem is with catchers ... the backup has to start a higher percentage of games than any other position player. When you launched the PT thread ... you showed YT logging 62 starts.

It makes no sense to me for TEX to make such a huge investment in pitching ... and then depend on Napoli repeating his career high defensive performance from 2011 this season ... along with YT's defensive liability as the backup catching over a third of the games.

That makes zero sense given the pitching investment.

Again, you're avoiding/ignoring the original issue.

I love how it's YT's fault that we lost the WS and his fault whenever a pitcher can't locate his pitches. It's kind of funny that our team is just so solid at every position that all of our scrutiny gets aimed at backup catcher and DH/Utility IF'er. I guess it's a good problem to have.

Torrealba is not the liability you make him out to be, and with that I'm done discussing this now, have fun spinning your wheels with this

Wonder if Texas is ready to move him for a case of sunflower seeds and sign Gonzo yet.

With 11 HR's in 24 innings you'd probably have to include the sun flower seeds with him. Like a truck load.

Just got home and turned on the game tonight in the 3rd inning and Darvish looks sharp, no make that nasty, in the 2 innings I have seen. I hope we see ALOT of this Darvish!

6IP 6H 1BB 3ER, gave up a 2 run homer to Giambi, threw 98 pitches. Had the bases loaded in the 6th but got out of the jam.

Texas has set their rotation: Lewis, Holland, Harrison, Darvish, Feliz

I still don't understand not splitting the lefties up with what Darvish is showing, but they don't pay me to make those decisions.

Yeah they said in that highlights video that Yu is making his first start on the 9th against the M's. Definitely the right team to make a first start against.

Rangers Sign Aaron Heilman
By Mike Axisa [April 4, 2012 at 12:05pm CST]

The Rangers have signed right-hander Aaron Heilman to a minor league contract and assigned him to Triple-A, reports Anthony Andro of FOXSportsSouthwest.com (on Twitter). The Mariners released the Frontline Sports client over the weekend.

Heilman spent the first half of the 2011 campaign with the Diamondbacks, who released him in July after he posted a 6.88 ERA with 8.4 K/9, 2.8 BB/9 and a 28.5% ground ball rate in 35 1/3 innings. He later signed minor league deals with the Phillies and Pirates, but didn't pitch at the Major League level after July 15th. One fifth of fly balls against him left the yard in 2011, a major reason for his unsightly ERA.

Texas Signs Veteran RHP

Sounds like he's a perfect fit.
