The Rangers payroll is approaching $127MM, but president and CEO Nolan Ryan told Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News that they won't be forced to dump any salary before the season.

what I meant is that I hope MLB to save face doesn't void the contract, announce that they discovered he is 17, and now that everyone knows it let everyone offer him their own contract.

If they void the contract ... and then announce he is 17 ... then there would have been no reason to void TEX contract ... and TEX would sue them for a trillion dollars.

First Ryan Braun ... then the CBA change at the behest of the lazy Yankees ... and now the Beras embarrassment. MLB just can't wait for the season to start so the focus is taken off their stream of bad publicity.

Not sure where there was any salary that TEX could dump even if they wanted to ... so not sure what nugget EG was after.

Isn't Koji the rumored "salary dump"?

Saw that a few teams, including DET, have asked about Murphy. Wonder if we could move him. I like David, but if he has value then I'd be ok moving him for the right price. We always have Borbon as well, depending on how he does in ST.

McCutcheon extends for 6 years, 51 million

The deal covers McCutchen's final remaining pre-arbitration season, all three of his arbitration-eligible seasons, and his first two years of free agency, with a third year of free agency being acquirable via a seventh-year $14.75 million team option.

Now those trade proposals can go the way of the dodo

Never thought TEX was interested in McCutcheon ... but if those numbers turn out to be accurate ... what the heck was McCutchen and his agent thinking... $51 for 6? That's less than $9/year ... in Pittsburgh!

If McCutcheon is that prime a talent ... what the heck is he doing giving away two years of FA and agreeing to a 73% bump for the option year above the $8.5 average. My head hurts.

If that how he values himself ... then he's not the CF that everyone thinks he could be.

Maybe he just likes Pittsburgh

Not any "new" news...but Wash has come out and said that as long as everything goes according to plan (IE..everyone stays healthy).. then Martin (leonys) will be in the minors for this upcoming season.

Article about it on Dallasnews...

Matt Mosley ‏ @mattmosley

Josh Hamilton told @ian1033 and me today that his plan is to eventually transition to first base. Thinks he has another four years in OF.

"Josh is our best center fielder, obviously. He'd win the Gold Glove, too. Nobody is better than Josh in center." .....Ron Washington

He must have been talking about another team(s).

Makes you wonder if Wash sometimes just says stuff to light a fire under a reporter's note pad. Not sure why else he would say that.

Given that fellow members of the 2005 draft class, Justin Upton got a six-year, $51.25 million contract in March 2010 and in the offseason after the 2010 season Jay Bruce signed a six-year, $51 million deal, McCutcheon's deal makes a lot more sense
