Kobe Bryant is 9 points away from becoming the most prolific scoring shooting guard in the history of the sport. To keep it in perspective here is a list of other guards and where they stand.

3rd: Michael Jordan 32292
4th: Kobe Bryant 32284

The next Guard?

12th: Oscar Robertson 26710

Most likely this is Kobe Bryant last major achievement of his career. One that has spanned 19 NBA seasons and included several achievements of which i encourage you to read the following:

  • At the time Being the Youngest player to start an NBA game: (18 years, 158 days)
  • Youngest player to win the NBA Slam Dunk Championship: (18 years, 169 days)
  • Youngest player to START an All-Star game: (19 years, 169 days).
  • Youngest player to be named to the NBA All-Rookie Team: (1996–97)
  • Youngest player to be named to the NBA All-Defensive Team: (1999–00)
  • 5 NBA titles
  • 7 NBA finals appearances
  • 2 NBA finals MVP's
  • 1 NBA league MVP
  • The second highest scoring game by an individual performer of all-time with 81 points in the modern basketball Era.
  • He also holds the record for most NBA All-Team Selections with 16.
  • Is tied for first all time with numerous players as a 11 time all NBA First-Team selection.
  • Is tied with numerous players as a 12 time NBA All-Defensive first team selection.

    He also has scored..
  • 60 points or more, career: 5 (as of March 22, 2011)
  • 50 points or more, career: 24 (as of March 22, 2011)
  • 50 points or more, season: 10 (2006–07)
  • 40 points or more, career: 121 (as of April 13, 2013)
  • 40 points or more, season: 27 (2005–06)

  • Is the Only player in NBA history with more than 30,000 points and 6,000 assists
  • Only player in NBA history to score at least 600 points in the postseason for three consecutive years.
  • 633 (2008), 695 (2009), 671 (2010)

He also leads the storied Los Angeles Lakers Franchise in almost every major statistical category.
  • Including: Games Played, Minutes Played, Steals, Field Goals, Free throws, and Points Scored, and Playoff points scored.

Kobe Bryant will pass the greatest guard in NBA history in scoring tonight. And its kind of a big deal.

He sure did accomplish a lot, for being a "selfish, ballhog, bad teammate."

Top 10 player of all-time. Great career!

Kobe would've got it faster, but that's impossible when you have to share with Shaq for 8 years.

Not sure of the accuracy, but I heard that it's taken him approximately 3 years and 200 or so games more. What I don't know is if those totals are based on the total games that he could have played in (i.e. did they count all 82 games last year or just the 6 he played in). I would assume that it's just games actually played but it was in passing, so I don't know for sure.

However, it's counted, Kobe has had one of the all-time great careers. He ain't MJ, but as others have said, he's closest to MJ that we've seen since MJ. He'll have to settle for MJ Lite.

As Stephen A. said this morning, the fact that he's even brought up in the conversation with MJ tells you just how good he has been.

KObe has been so dependable and healthy prior to recently. Just amazing. He is a freak and should always be considered a great scorer. It can be argued he is in the top 10 of all time.

If he was on the right team he could win another ring or two, he looks that good

Cal Ripken of the NBA. Not sure if he is top 10. Still have Duncan and Shaq ahead of him. Definitely top 15 though

What a class act by the T'Wolves for stopping the game and congratulating Kobe and giving him the game ball. That is respect!

MJ played 3 years at UNC, Kobe came into the league straight out of HS and played with Shaq. MJ played with Pippen, primarily a defensive player and a #2 option on offense.

Consider this - Michael Jordan accomplished what he did while missing two years in between his two sets of three championships in a row and then retired because the owner of the Chicago Bulls was a dumb ass that busted up the team. Can you imagine what Michael would have accomplished if he had played those two years in between and continued to play a few more years after the Phil Jackson era. If Michael Jordan had done that - No player would have passed him, but

Congratulations to Kobe Bryant for passing Michael and being the only player to come so close to Michael Jordan's accomplishments. That should not be disrespected in any form or way. Michael still was and is the best ever truthfully
