Is Zack Greinke a Hall of Famer?

  • Yes. Even if he retired right now.

  • Not if he retired now, but probably so by the time he retires.

  • He has a lot of work to do still, but maybe.

  • No way.

his 2017/2018 seasons are arguably more impressive than his sub-3 ERA seasons in 2013-14 (though they're still very good years). A low 3's ERA in Chase Field is always pretty impressive.

Chase Field isn't as hitter friendly now with the humidor.

but that only went into effect prior to this season. He had a 3.21 ERA the year before.

Greinke is close... But he does have a couple problems...

He has had 4 seasons of better than 3.00 ERA, but only 3 of those were over 200 innings... And 3 of those were in the NL, where stats like that happen more Frequently

Outside of those 4 seasons, his best ERA is a 3.20...

Point is, although he does have the ELITENESS for his BEST seasons, he may have been too mediocre outside of it...

and what hurts him is that he pitched in the same time as Max Scherzer, Clayton Kershaw, and Justin Verlander... 3 pitchers who are pretty clearly above him on any list... Always hard to make it when you are not seen to be even CLOSE to the best of a generation...

Do you put Grienke in before Felix Hernandez?

He'll probably end up in prison for murdering half his team and Yasiel Puig, thereby disqualifying him for the HoF.

He has crazy eyes. Guy is a psycho. :bolt:

Unless he plays for my team. Then he's just fiery. :suds:
Claimed to have social anxiety. Then Joey Votto jumps on the SA bandwagon and says "I have it too, I have it too!" Votto always was an unimaginative pussy (no offense).

Get them both emotional support baboons and tell them to fuck off. And yes, calling Votto a pussy is a bit offensive. Let's call him an unimaginative taint.

Though, I'd have probably had paid good money to see Greinke chuck Puig's shit off the team bus that one time

I think given the restrictions on starting pitchers that did not exist in previous eras, 250 wins/3000 strikeouts are good barometers for career stats worthy of serious HOF consideration.

He's 63 wins from 250 so he needs four more solid seasons to get there.
He's 565 strikeouts away from 3000. He can probably get there in three seasons.

Grienke will be 35 next season. Career decline could set in at anytime. Maybe he doesn't have four solid seasons left in his arm. Hard to say but he hasn't yet made the Hall yet based on what he has accomplished so far.

Might be lower than 250 wins for today's game, given that only 3 active pitchers have 200+ wins, and zero currently have 250 wins (although CC and Colon could reach it in 2019).

Many of the best pitchers of the past 10 years are well under 200 wins despite being in their 30s...

can't believe no mention of the 5 Gold Gloves since Mussina's 7 GG have helped so much.

Has a higher ERA+ in LA and Arizona than he did in KC.

I say no to Greinke and here's why. I have a whole different standard on who gets my imaginary HOF vote and it goes like this.

If I was walking my 13

oops my computer got weird on me and posted too soon

anyway i was saying that if i had a 13 year old son or grandson and he loved baseballand I took him to Cooperstown, and we're walking around the rooms looking at the placques, what would I say about Zack Greinke if he was there? I cant think of anything that would wow a kid. I would certainly have a lot to say about Derek Jeter or Albert Pujols or Mariano Rivera or Ichiro or Miguel Cabrera. But Greinke, yeah he was a good pitcher for his time, but you gotta be special for my HOF. That's it. That's my criteria.what would you tell a 13 year old about that player.

Their career are eerily similar when looking at the numbers. I don't think either of them gets in.

I don't either. The problem with both of them is that they don't have enough wins. Greinke only has 187 wins and is 35. Hard to imagine him getting to 250 wins much 300. Felix is a few years younger but has fewer wins and seems to have deteriorated significantly.

Starting pitchers with fewer than 300 wins rarely make the Hall. Pitchers with fewer than 250 wins almost never make the Hall. IIRC, the only pitchers in the Hall with fewer than 250 wins that were exclusively starters are Sandy Koufax and Pedro. Now that may change as we move forward and 250 may become the new 300 win standard. But right now I don't think we are there.
