I guess the fans in Baton Rouge ran out of patience for that offense to wake up. What a shame for Les; he WAS a constant winner at LSU, and he got Oklahoma State off the ground back in the day.

I don't have a dog in the race, but it would have been better to axe Cameron first. The guy has never succeeded anywhere he has been despite the pedigree. Cam played both football and basketball at IU for Bob Knight and Lee Corso. When Cam was hired as the HC at Indiana, Knight said if HE can't win they oughta just shoot him.

Les had too much talent to not win it at least one year (without Saban's players) but then of course it was hard to win having to play Saban every year. It was more about the clock management and playcalling in key moments in big games. He has had plenty of luck over the years but it seems like every year he has a wtf moment. This last game was just icing on the cake, it was going to happen soon just didn't think it would happen like this.

Agreed. After they screwed up his "firing" after last season then fire him after 4 games into THIS season it makes you wonder about the stability of the LSU admins.

Les always seemed to get himself into strange situations during games.

Saw this....it was pretty crazy. Didn't imagine Les would ever get canned. I knew folks were restless, but he had a good record and excellent recruiting.

I will miss the mad hatter and his weird speeches and quotes. Maybe I'll stop by Sonic today to have a corndog in your honor.

I've been hearing that Les was told to fire the OC and he refused so they both got sacked.

Herman and Briles on the short list. I'm thinking Briles

I missed this comment, before I posted mine about Cameron. I guess you have to respect Les for sticking to his guns. But I think he would have been done after this season regardless.

We're seeing firings like this more and more in college football. When it happens in the NFL, it's business and that is understood. When coaching changes are made at the college level, a program doesn't bounce back or endure the change the same way an NFL team would. For most college programs, there is a time of adjustment and losing, i.e. Michigan. For some, it could end up being years, resulting in coach musical chairs if you will. There is such a thing as a "coach fit", and LSU and Les Miles were a fit, IMO, just as Harbaugh is to Michigan now.

LSU to the SEC is very much the same as Michigan State is to the B1G, and that's from a historical perspective. Both programs used to be middle of the road in their respective conferences and have had success lately. LSU a bit more, but nonetheless successful. Dantonio is a hero in East Lansing, and Les Miles is unemployed. The difference is LSU having a bit more, with that national championship and playing for others. Expectations went through the roof at LSU. Unreasonable expectations. Miles has had a fairly young team the past couple of years, trying to fill the gaps in the depth chart after early defections to the NFL. That's not always an easy task. Miles recruits as well as the best out there, and he has elevated LSU. Just take a look at their record during the 90s, for an example.

Since 2012, LSU has a winning percentage that is top 15 in all the land. They haven't won a championship in that span, but the program has become a consistent winning one. It hasn't always been that way.

13.-Notre Dame-(40-16-0)--0.71429
15.-LSU-(39-16-0)--0.70909

From 1990-99, LSU went 54-58-1.

Just like Georgia last year with Mark Richt and now Miles, I believe the firing of these two outstanding coaches was a huge mistake. Granted, both programs are nationally prominent at this time, Georgia more so historically consistent than LSU. However I believe at this time in college football, it may take these programs a while to get back to winning the way they were the past several years. We'll see what happens.

See Ohio State firing John Cooper. Then maybe you will understand

Not sure where you are going with that? Cooper was given quite a bit of patience from his employers IMO. He consistently attracted tons of NFL quality talent. He couldn't beat Michigan, and he couldn't win bowl games.

It won't matter. Herman will likely have his choice of several powerhouse programs. IMO, if USC has a shot at Herman, they should jump at it...even if it means firing a coach after one year. If USC doesn't get him, LSU certainly would. I think Houston to Herman is a lot like Cincy was to Kelly....just a nice springboard to a top 10 coaching gig.

Houston is definitely a springboard for Herman. I don't know if I see him going to LSU though. Helton's job at USC is safe for this year

Another program to watch in relation to Herman is Penn St. This is James Franklin's 3rd season and this have to be the make or break year for him.

You can't tell me that Herman wouldn't be interested in coming back to the B1G as a HC?

Means you should look up the history of OSU and Jimmy Johnson, before giving Les credit for geting OSU off the ground

Good point, I forgot about Jimmy at OSU

All that talent, a stud for a RB. Defense just always with first round talent and they lose games cause of dumb shit like piss poor QB play or just retarded clock management. How many times has les fucked up the clock management and it cost them the game?

It was time to get rid of him cause he is wasting talent.

I think it might be awhile before LSU has to worry about a coach wasting talent.

Cooper won a lot of games but couldn't get over the hump with the important ones. Les had entered that same boat. We had seen it with other teams as well. Georgia-Richt, Tennessee-Fulmer, Michigan-Carr.

without reading your post tl:dr or this thread tl:dr

its all about keeping the booster people happy so they keep giving the money. Nebraska saw that with Bo Pelini
