Stop feeling sorry for these coaches. They get paid millions of dollars to perform. If they don't, then they should expect to get cannned. We fire people all the time who are paid a LOT of money to do their jobs and it's never anything I give a second thought to when we do it. People down the chain of command deserve more patience because they are not expected to meet such high expectations. Fuck any coach who wants to be paid like a top executive and then whines about being held accountable. It's a joke they are getting paid as much in two years as people like Bear Bryant and Barry Switzer made in their entire careers.

I still think they need to hope for two things to NOT happen:

1) Houston going undefeated and making the playoffs
2) Houston getting invited to the Big Xii

It won't matter. Herman will likely have his choice of several powerhouse programs. IMO, if USC has a shot at Herman, they should jump at it...even if it means firing a coach after one year. If USC doesn't get him, LSU certainly would. I think Houston to Herman is a lot like Cincy was to Kelly....just a nice springboard to a top 10 coaching gig.

Wolverines got stretched by Colorado at home, and you're talking about beating MSU & OSU on the road? lol.
Stretched? CU scored 14 points in the first 3 minutes, one off a sack/fumble/td, and then once a few minutes later in the 1st, and then scored one single time the rest of the game. The scoring through the 2nd, 3rd and 4th was 31-7 Michigan. The game ended up in a blowout in Michigan's favor.

With that said, CU also just went into Autzen stadium and beat Oregon at home. So I'm not so worried about them scoring a few TD's on us. And at this point, MSU doesn't look like a world beater either. if CU and MSU played, I wouldn't be comfortable putting money down on MSU.

I don't think I can agree with most in this thread.

Les Miles is one thing......consistently average.

He has ALWAYS found a way to lose 2 games a season regardless of talent.

He did NOT WIN a NC......his team was voted champion because EVERYBODY had at least 2 losses. That may NEVER happen again. In other words, the didn't take his team to the mountaintop, the mountaintop came DOWN to his level.

He never led a team to actually go out and WIN it on their own merits.

If you want to hire him, get used to winning 9, 10 games a year, and NEVER getting over the hump. If that's what you want and expect, he's your man.

If you want to win titles, he's NOT your man.

"if you pretend that Colorado didn't score a lot of the points that they did, UofM dominated them the whole game"

What was the score at half time?

Not all. CU scored a quick couple of point and Michigan held them to two scores the rest of the game, while blowing them out offensively. Again, a team that beat Oregon at home.

What I meant by that comment was that scores like that are fluky and not really something to critique about our offensive or defensive performance. Every so often you get sacked, and once and a while you fumble -- rarely do team scoop it up and return it for a TD (insert MSU joke here). CU's offense scored 21 points on us. Nothing to be concerned about. They're currently a top 15 team in terms of total offense.

Which was totally impressive. Where's Oregon ranked?
Beating Oregon in Autzen is always impressive. What CU did to Oregon in Autzen is similar to what Nebraska did to them at home.

If you say so. There's a good chance Oregon goes 0-3 in their remaining home games. Probably finish the season sub .500.

I guess we'll see. That would be a bit surprising for Oregon to sink that far that fast. But Colorado has done some impressive things so far. And they beat Oregon with their backup QB.

Because LSU was supposed to be so much more this year. Wonder if a new coach will make much of a difference.

We will see.

They just got beat at home by unranked Colorado and they've got Washington (10), Arizona St., and Stanford (7) left at home.

I've been hearing that Les was told to fire the OC and he refused so they both got sacked.

Herman and Briles on the short list. I'm thinking Briles

We're seeing firings like this more and more in college football. When it happens in the NFL, it's business and that is understood. When coaching changes are made at the college level, a program doesn't bounce back or endure the change the same way an NFL team would. For most college programs, there is a time of adjustment and losing, i.e. Michigan. For some, it could end up being years, resulting in coach musical chairs if you will. There is such a thing as a "coach fit", and LSU and Les Miles were a fit, IMO, just as Harbaugh is to Michigan now.

LSU to the SEC is very much the same as Michigan State is to the B1G, and that's from a historical perspective. Both programs used to be middle of the road in their respective conferences and have had success lately. LSU a bit more, but nonetheless successful. Dantonio is a hero in East Lansing, and Les Miles is unemployed. The difference is LSU having a bit more, with that national championship and playing for others. Expectations went through the roof at LSU. Unreasonable expectations. Miles has had a fairly young team the past couple of years, trying to fill the gaps in the depth chart after early defections to the NFL. That's not always an easy task. Miles recruits as well as the best out there, and he has elevated LSU. Just take a look at their record during the 90s, for an example.

Since 2012, LSU has a winning percentage that is top 15 in all the land. They haven't won a championship in that span, but the program has become a consistent winning one. It hasn't always been that way.

1.-Ohio St.-(53-4-0)--0.92982
2.-Alabama-(54-6-0)--0.90000
3.-Florida St.-(52-7-0)--0.88136
4.-Clemson-(50-8-0)--0.86207
5.-Oregon-(47-11-0)--0.81034
6.-Stanford-(46-12-0)--0.79310
7.-Michigan St.-(45-12-0)--0.78947
8.-Baylor-(44-12-0)--0.78571
8.-Louisville-(44-12-0)--0.78571
10.-Georgia-(43-14-0)--0.75439
11.-Oklahoma-(41-14-0)--0.74545
12.-Wisconsin-(42-16-0)--0.72414
13.-Texas A&M-(40-16-0)--0.71429
13.-Notre Dame-(40-16-0)--0.71429
15.-LSU-(39-16-0)--0.70909

From 1990-99, LSU went 54-58-1.

Just like Georgia last year with Mark Richt and now Miles, I believe the firing of these two outstanding coaches was a huge mistake. Granted, both programs are nationally prominent at this time, Georgia more so historically consistent than LSU. However I believe at this time in college football, it may take these programs a while to get back to winning the way they were the past several years. We'll see what happens.

Kudos for a well researched statement!

While there are rare instances where a coach needs to be fired asap (Paterno, Sarkisian, Briles) making the decision during the season and in Les Miles' case pretty early in the season just says "WE GIVE UP". There isn't much to be gained other than parting ways with a guy they apparently were not enthralled with anyhow since they basically fired him last year.

Not an LSU fan, but Les was definitely a unique character who made things interesting. I will miss him

Les had too much talent to not win it at least one year (without Saban's players) but then of course it was hard to win having to play Saban every year. It was more about the clock management and playcalling in key moments in big games. He has had plenty of luck over the years but it seems like every year he has a wtf moment. This last game was just icing on the cake, it was going to happen soon just didn't think it would happen like this.
