Thanks FF and Clayton for the update and I too thought initially that the pick was a waste. But then Mike Mayock started stating that this guy was a steal and he was right!

Besides not playing organized football his entire junior season, I think part of the reason Quinn fell was because he had a brain tumor. He was a big gamble, but the Rams knew his character wasn't an issue. I was happy with the pick, but I also understand what fastforward is saying about him only having one move on his college tape. I watched him for two years and he basically only needed the one move. I think he would've been drafted sooner if it weren't missing a year, regardless of his tape (see Kiki Mingo).

He's panned out extremely well, hopefully he turns out as good as Chris Long thinks he will.

I'd forgotten about that. I clearly remember thinking he was too big a risk for a top 50 pick. I was really hoping someone else would pick him. I didn't hate the guy. I just saw too much risk when there were safer options.

The thing about that pick that seemed good at the time was that Quinn had that 1 speed rush move. Long was getting hurries at the time but wasn't really getting sacks and Quinn (or Aldon Smith) seemed like the 2 guys we needed to compliment him.

I remember hearing in the draft that Quinn checked out on the Brain Tumor and that it was a bit of a red herring injury like Adrian Clayborne. I just remember watching the draft and thinking 'not Prince Amukamara, not Prince Amukamara, not Prince Amukamara' after Fairley was off the board.

I can understand not wanting Amukamara but we needed CBs in a bad way at that time. We also needed OL far more than DL help.

I for one loved the Quinn pick and was getting very antsy as he slid, hoping he would make it the Rams pick. If had played his junior year (ruled ineligible for lying to the NCAA about receiving gifts), he was projected to be a top 5 pick. The benign brain tumor surgery was in his high school senior year, but that kind of thing is always at least a minor concern. Fairley would've been my fall back pick, as they were both available 1 pick away from the Rams'.

Julio Jones would've been great obviously, but the Falcons spent the farm to move up to get him.

That draft has really shaken out to be pretty strong, with little bust potential in the top 20 (other than the QB reaches):

1. Cam Newton
2. Von Miller
3. Marcel Dareus
4. AJ Green
5. Patrick Peterson
6. Julio Jones
7. Aldon Smith
8. Jake Locker (ouch)
9. Tyron Smith
10. Blaine Gabbert (ouch)
11. JJ Watt
12. Christian Ponder (meh)
13. Nick Fairley
14. Robert Quinn
15. Mike Pouncey
16. Ryan Kerrigan
17. Nate Solder
18. Cory Liuget
19. Prince Amukamara (meh)
20. Adrian Clayborn

I remember a lot of people not liking the pick but I figured if there's 1 thing Spags knew that it was DE's. Turns out there only was 1 thing Spags knew but it was indeed DE's.

Yea they had a couple of them in New York like Tuck, Umeniyora (now with the Falcons and he scored a Pick 6 last week) and Michael Strahan now a Hollywood dude.
