DFA a guy the day after he tosses 2 innings with 1 hit, 1 BB and 2 K?

That line should get him a promotion, not a pink slip (overstatement, granted).

Good thing Law and the Os are still around, though.

What I forgot yesterday is that teams cannot DFA someone who is injured. That meant the Giants could only DFA Beede, Osich, Johnson and Snelten (guys not on the 25 man). Worked out really well for Law, Okert, Gomez, Herb and Valdez, who are all on a disabled list.

Good point. But why Snelton over Osich?

Pitching Line: IP-H-R-ER-BB-K

AAA: Sacramento River Cats WON 7-3 (26-29)

Steven Duggar 4-5, 3 2B, 3B, 3 R, 1 K
Austin Slater 2-3, 2 RBI, 2 R, 2 BB, 1 K, 1 SB (6th). Call him up pleaseeeeeeee
Ryder Jones 4-5, 2B, 3B, 2 RBI, 2 R,
Hunter Pence 0-5, 2 K

Big day for Duggar, he needed it. Hopefully he figures things out here. Slater, though, deserves to be in the big leagues. He's batting .373/.463/.627 !! He's sliced his K% all the way down to 14% while doubling his BB% to 12.5%. He's changed his approach from his prior seasons drastically, becoming more selective and driving the ball in the air more often. For his career, Slater has a ground-ball hit rate of 64.2%, but this year it's all the way down to 45.5%, while his flyball rate has jumped from 23.2% to 35.7%. The adjustment has led to more power as well. He's not going to be Barry Bonds at the ML level, but he needs a shot.

Joe Panik 2-4, 2B, 1 RBI, 1 R
Alen Hanson 1-3, HR, 2 RBI, 1 R
C.J Hinojosa 2-3, 1 K
Bryce Johnson 2-4, 2B, 1 RBI, 1 R

Hinojosa playing in his first game since tearing his Achilles on the final game of last season. He could jump to AAA soon.

See you on Tuesday, MadBum

A: Augusta GreenJackets WON 9-2 (33-17)

Manuel Geraldo 3-5, HR (7th), 4 RBI, 1 R, 1 K
Ryan Kirby 1-5, HR (7th), 2 RBI, 1 R, 2 K
Heliot Ramos 0-3, 1 RBI, 1 R, 2 BB

There's been a lot of helium recently on Geraldo. He's always been toolsy, but raw. He's finally started to grow a little bit though and is putting up big numbers. Keep an eye on him, probably the highest-upside SS the Giants have in the minors right now (which doesn't say much, I'll grant you).

Jason Bahr 5.0-3-1-1-3-4
Camilo Doval 2.0-0-0-0-0-4
Ryan Koziol 1.0-2-0-0-0-1
Rayan Hernandez 1.0-2-1-1-0-0

My boy Doval is on a roll now. Since his utterly disastrous start, he has a 1.62 ERA in 16.2 innings, with only 3 walks in that span and 22 K's.

Pitching Line: IP-H-R-ER-BB-K

AAA: Sacramento River Cats WON 8-1 (27-29)

Ryder Jones 1-4, HR (4th), 4 RBI, 1 R, 1 error (13th)
Caleb Gindl 3-4, 2 2B, 1 RBI, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K
Eury Perez 2-4, 2B, 1 RBI, 1 R, 1 BB

Briefly thought that Ryder Jones might get the call for Belt, even just to see if the Giants could catch some lightning while he's hot. He had 9 hits in 11 AB's after his first-inning homer.

Tyler Beede 6.0-1-1-1-5-7
Jordan Schafer 1.0-2-0-0-0-2
Ray Black 1.0-1-0-0-0-1
Derek Law 1.0-2-0-0-0-0

Beede with the effectively wild line tonight. It's important to note that he pitched out of the stretch the entire way tonight, by choice. The Giants and Beede are clearly trying stuff. Today wasn't necessarily a great sign, but at least he hung in there.

AA: Richmond Flying Squirrels WON 7-6 (27-23)

Ryan Howard 2-4, 2B, 1 BB

Connor Overton 3.1-4-3-2-1-1
Dillon McNamara 2.0-0-0-0-0-4
Patrick Ruotolo 1.0-1-0-0-1-0

Been a rough go for Williams in AA so far, but I'm not worried just yet.

Quick recap, guys who show good walk rates, low K rates and high iso are usually guys to keep an eye on. But, all walk rates are typically high in this league, so look for the guys who stand out (for better or worse)

Juan Sanchez 5.0-5-1-1-0-7
Josdeiker Marcano 1.0-0-0-0-0-0
Yovanny Moronta 1.0-0-0-0-1-2
Samuel Quintana 1.0-0-0-0-0-1
Willian Suarez 1.0-1-0-0-0-1

On the other side, it's tougher to evaluate pitchers, but similar rules apply. Guys with low walk rates, low hit rates and high k rates are guys to keep an eye on. But it's tough because you can't really gauge his stuff, a guy could just be too advanced for the league. For example, Marco Gonzalez last year. He's a soft-baller, but dominated the league with a chanegup. He doesn't have a bright future, but dominated the league because he was one of the few guys with consistent offspeed.

You know what, this is a lie. I kinda just assumed the Giants were at or above .500. Still if the River Cats win 5 of the 6 will be .500 or above, including all the minor league ones in action.

The Giants released 1st baseman KC Hobson from Richmond recently. His slash line of .220/.328/.460, with 23 Ks in 50 ABs, is very uninspiring but when you consider his OPS was the 2nd highest on a weak hitting Richmond club, and the guy most likely to take over 1st base is hitting .222/.341/.444, with no one ready to move up from San Jose, it makes you wonder if there was something more to that move than production.

That name does not even ring a bell for me. I would guess he were signed as minor league filler?

When Doc puts his prospect list together each year, he spells out his top 50 then lists another 25-50 honorable mentions. If you don’t even get an honorable mention, I have about as much interest in you as I do the hotdog vendor.

He was a minor league free agent acquisition in the middle of last season and was re-signed in the offseason. I thought it was interesting to note that, essentially, the 2nd most productive bat (again, not saying much) for Richmond was let go. I do have to say that I didn't understand why he was picked up to begin with or re-signed for that matter. Just when I thought maybe it made sense to have him, they let him go.
