Before the season started I bet one of my buddies the Cubs would win the Series. He gave me 12 to 1 odds for 100 bucks so if they win it itll be a cool 1200. LOL. The best part is one of my other buddies bet me 100 bucks the Cubs wouldnt win 70 games so looks like Im on a free roll now.

Cubs have the 26th ranked offense for 5 years running - how is adding 2 pitchers for this year only (and giving up prospects for meaningless players) going to help anything? Come on Theo you're better than this.

Yeah the Cubs have the 26th ranked offense for 5 years, but the team this year is drastically improved offensively than they have been in previous years. Even with the slump, we have real hitters who are a threat. Since they are all under 25 years old, they haven't been on the team for the last 5 years, making our offense 26th.

The reality is that this year is most likely not our year (not saying it's not possible). Our hitters are getting better every year, so we don't have to worry as much about them because they will be really good when it is the team's year. At least that is the plan. Our pitching is good now, but it doesn't have a strong foundation. They rely on their relief pitchers too much and the back of the lineup is a joke. I like the moves that Theo made. It'll help us this year a bit, without sacrificing our future

Jason "Big Sexy" Whitlock said it best. If the Cubs had a 10 game lead with 9 games to go, they'd still miss the playoffs. They're in the wild card spot now but pitching wins and they don't have enough.

The Cubs have the 5th lowest ERA and the 2nd lowest WHIP in the MLB. Imo it's not the pitching that is the problem, it's the inconsistent hitting

Cubs have the best road record in baseball. If this team can figure out how to win at home consistently the last 2 months they may be dangerous

The team has a 111 ERA+. Seriously?

The Cubs have one of the 5 best staffs in MLB... if they dont have enough pitching neither does just about anyone else

Cubs aren't passing up the Cards and Pirates. They might pass up one but they won't get both.

They are built to win out of the wild card but we'll see

Yep there is no shot we get pass both teams. IF we can build up a big enough lead in the EC and set our roatation up I think they could potentially make some noise in the playoffs since, as you said, they seem pretty well built to win out of that spot.

yep, and so far they are linked to every free agent in baseball expected to get over 100 million. There are rumors Castro for Gardner with the yankees. Even contract money left for both, for some reason people also want Heyward when we need a stop gap outfielder or move Baez or Bryant to Center field and keep Schwarber and Soler, the two that hit during the playoffs. Now they want to upgrade catcher, which is not Schwarber but do not think they will find a taker for Montero.

This team can line up with Bryant in left, Soler in Right, Baez at third, Russell at short, castro at second, rizzo at first, Schwarber to be a dominant offensive catcher, with Arrieta, Lester, Samardja, Hammel and Hendricks as the opening day lineup with a stop gap center fielder, or keep Montero and have the outfield as Schwarber, Bryant and Soler, possiblity for 130 home runs and 275 RBI's.

Lets see if they choose wrong.

Surprised?
No.

They didn't catch the Cardinals or Pirates but were built to win from the Wild Card spot. The Cards rotation falling apart did surprise me a little bit, though. Cubs have issues with high velocity and the Cards lost velocity (and arms) at the end of the season and got smoked.

The Cubs pitching staff has a 154 ERA+. Or, roughly, Pedro Martinez' career average.

At 36-15 this team has actually underperformed vs where they probably should be. Advanced metrics have them at 39 or 40 wins right now. It's crazy to say but this team has had some weird losses or their record would be much better

Imagine if Kyle Schwarber hadn't been hurt.......Heyward has under performed hitting....... Rizzo has struggled
.............at times the bullpen has stunk.......Soler hasn't done much

and oh by the way.......The CUBS are 22 games over .500

After another shutout today every starter in the Cubs rotation has an ERA lower than the team ERA of the 2nd best team ERA ( NATS). Pitching has been phenomenal
