well. so far 3-0 against the mets, final game starting now. Top three pretty solid so far against the mets. I dont know about Wada for Wood, they just need to get a day to day arm in there for Jackson or just keep throwing him out there. Between Jackson and Castillo/Ross we are missing a couple guys to try in that pen.

Its time to consider what its costing us to not have those extra arms, instead of thinking we are not getting enough of a return for the trade.

Wada was scratched from his start in Iowa Tuesday, I thought he was gonna be here already.

Turns out Theo was right. He said pitching would be easy to get "when the time was right." He never said anything about good pitching.

Still dont like how people want Hendricks replaced. He is one of the best #4's in baseball. I just hope if they give up another 150 million dollar deal the guy can at least throw the ball to first base.

Cubs have the best WAR for starting pitchers in the NL, play the cellar Phillies at home... of course, we get swept.

But, at least, we get a li'l spark of hope and cheer:

Need a 5th starter, need a back end bullpen arm, and need a bat. Realistically, we need 2 bullpen arms.

2.5 back for the 2nd wildcard spot, too many holes on this team. Might be better to not make any trades, hold on to the farm.

yes, big week of baseball, wish they would have swapped Olt and Teagarden on the active roster. Bryant might have concussion symptoms, cubs facing 3 lefties in pittsburg, Schwarber, Coghlan and Herrera are pretty much waiting for late inning pitching changes. Dont much like this Coghlan at third base deal anyway. Maddon is trying to turn him into his Zobrist. Dont know if they do not want Olt and Bryant here together.

That other catcher Montero is on rehab in Tennessee. I think the best that can happen is someone claims him and takes his contract, like the Sox did with Rios. Theoyer should be happy to get rid of him, but they will probably look to get players back and blow the deal. Why they took Montero with Castillo here and Schwarber on the way was always a head scratcher.

Castillo wasn't the answer behind the plate anyways, and I don't think anyone seen Schwarber getting here so early. I was thinking a September call up at the earliest.

Montero wasn't a bad move, but now that Schwarber is here to stay, it's time to cut your losses.

Usually I am on the players side of these things, but if the plan is to let Montero catch 2 games, Schwarber 2 and Ross Lester, 14 million is a lot of money to pay a guy to catch 60-70 games. Seems Maddon is creating his plan and trying to sell it to Theo. Its a time you do a Beane and take that decision away from the manager. They have effectively split up Jake and Lester, so Ross does not need to catch back to back, any more Schwarber catches and the less return you get on Montero anyway. It should be a bonus for someone to take the contract. Did I mention Schwarber has yet to get a hit while positioned in left field? You know, the catcher has the best idea of the days strike zone.

Like I said, I'm ready to let Montero go. But at the time of signing him, it wasn't a bad move.

It's better for Schwarber to learn from a guy like Ross anyways. Not to mention, the production value that Schwarber gives you, goes way up when he's a catcher, rather than in Left. 25-30 homers from a Catcher is outstanding production and leaves Left open for another good bat.

I did this with the mentality of use the numbers that support your side of the argument. People say Dan Haren was not enough to be in our rotation.

Lester (ace) 21 games, 132 innings pitched, 55 runs 48 earned runs, 123 hits

Haren 21 games, 129 innings pitched, 50 runs, 49 earned runs, 116 hits on a bad team.

I sure hope Haren shuts up up the nay sayers.

Nice numbers.

I don't get what people are complaining about. Haren is coming here to be a back of the rotation guy, basically our 5th guy.

Those are great numbers for a 5th starter

yeah, he gave up a lot of home runs, in Miami, on a shitty team, pissed about leaving the dodgers, but when the numbers match up to our "ace" they are pretty damn good.

Rough 1st inning, 29 pitches, and got out of it with Ramirez gunned at home.

Hope it's just jitters

utlimately it was four runs, 3 earned. Not bad from the fifth starter. Hamels fell on his face in his Texas Debut, just watched JA Happ not even get to his 5th inning so not being comfortable makes sense. Then you get innings extended with Bryant and Castro looking at eachother to pick up a grounder that barely rolls to the outfield grass for a run. After the comeback the pen gave the lead right back, so definitely other issues than Haren.
