Any ideas? $5-10,000, gotta be dependable, and safe. But I also want him to get laid...
If you want a car that will look like it cost a lot more than it actually does, and will get him laid in high school, a Saab 9-3.
I drive an Audi, and agree.
The only thing that made me say Saab over an Audi is the budget he's looking at. You can find a 2007 9-3 pretty easily with 40-50k miles for $10k. An A4 is going to be in the 80-90k mile range, which is where he will need to consider replacing the timing belt, waterpump, thermostat, etc... He's not going to want to spend 10k on a car that is going to need $1500-$2000 in scheduled maintenance less than a year into owning it

That's definitely a good point there. I have never priced out either, so I had no idea there was such a disparity.
I guess with what I do know about them, though, Audis are more durable, so it may be better to go after an Audi that has around maybe 105k-110k that has already had the timing belt replaced and had some maintenance done. I'm a little biased, as one of my friends works for Audi and works on them all the time, so I admittedly know more about them. He has an A6 with about 115k on it and it runs like a beast. Plus, the fact that there are so many more Audi dealerships/shops than Saab, it seems, could potentially make an Audi less expensive over time.
