I have always been a HUGE proponent of always finding a vet like Bradford rather than just going with whatever rookie is available when your pick comes up. You can win with a slightly below average QB in this league and QB's bust so frequently that your are setting yourself up for disaster when you have to draft a QB in the 1st round to start for your team. You aren't doing yourself and favors, you are doing your rookie QB any favors and you aren't doing your team any favors when you paint yourself into that corner.

....but contracts like this might have me changing my tune real quick.

That's not true

I did an analysis a couple of years ago (that CBS has since eaten) that showed that only cornerbacks busted less than quarterbacks.

I think it's a win-win.

PHI...like you said the real number here is $26 mil/yrs...$13 mil per is not bad for a starting QB. They can still invest a pick on a QB to groom, but now use #13 on the BPA.

Bradford...he gets $26 mil instead of the tagged amount so he makes an extra $6mil...if he plays well, he can expect a longer term extension to pad his retirement.

It's not $13M/year though. It's $18M/year or $26M for one year essentially (he gets $26M if cut after year one).

His deal is a reflection of how thin the quarterback pool is, not Bradford's talent.
Last year probably had the deepest QB pool of all time as far as I could tell.

Really? Steelers might not have made the playoffs without his 2-1 record this year.
He played like shit in all three. I'll give him credit for not throwing his two wins, though.

I'll have to take your word on that. Like I said, I can't even remember he's still playing.

I guess to me I view that $13 million next year as an elite player in this league. I mean when we look OL only the top OT's get that much, WR we are talking top-7 player, RB/TE/S we are talking top player by quite a bit, D-Line that is still a top-7 player, Linebacker that is a top-3 player, CB it is a top-5 player. So we are talking the elite players in the league that you would be missing out on for having an average at best QB. That is why I consider this a loss for the Eagles unless somehow Bradford turns into a top-10 QB for them.

If I understand you...you would rather have spent $4 or $5 mil per on Daniels (let's use him for name value only) and put the other $12 or so mil in another top level FA position to bolster the 53.

My response to that...I think PHI is a 6 win team with Daniels or a like kind QB without much experience.

With this deal...the Bradford's CH is $12.5 mil this season...$22.5 mil next season, but his dead money hit is only $9.5 and maybe that can be spread over two years.

They still have roughly $18 mil...with a draft class sign and leaving a cushion...they can probably max out on a $10 mil FA or two solid guys.

Draft...I had them taking Lynch...to update...I would revisit OT3 to PHI @ 13.

I think the break down I saw is $12.5 in '16 and $22.5 in '17...but if '17 even makes sense...why not extend him long term and bring his '17 CH down to around $10 mil? Spotac reports the '17 deadmoney hit is $9.5, but the math is not working out for me...should be $13.5 mil to equal $26 mil, but I get the sense that PHI would get to prorate the G$.

dead money is the 22 mil ( guaranteed) minus the 2016 cap hit of 12.5 mil which is 9.5 the extra 4 mil is for injury so not guaranteed yet:suds:

Now it adds up...thanks.

CD makes good points, but I don't think this a terrible deal for PHI.

It's not ! Outsiders can say all they want about Bradford not being able to stay healthy while a Ram ( why is that again? Oh that's right OL sucks) This is huge for Philly, they could land a QB later in the draft and groom him, Bradford can throw the damn ball pretty good when given protection.

I like it, better then tagging him..

Yes and No. I want him to be our guy but at the right price. Just seems like teams are way overpaying for mediocre QB play and those teams are the ones that continue to finish in that 7-9 to 9-7 range. Enough to think they could make the jump the next year but yet not getting into the premium picks of the draft. So that is what has me a bit worried about these contracts being handed to mediocre QB's in that Osweiler is going to see the money and want to go for it. I don't blame him if he does but I just would hope the Broncos would find another player instead of overpaying.

I hear ya....

So how did it go with him staying healthy all season long for the Eagles...Oh right it didn't go well.

It was pretty awesome back when he was in Oklahoma and that didn't stop him from getting hurt.

Are they that much more than a 6 win team with Bradford though? I mean they won 7 games this year with him as the starting QB. So not sure you are really building a championship caliber team which is what I thought every team was trying to do.
