It is April. Draft this month. Now it is time to start posting expectations and wish lists.

Has Free Agency changed any of it?

I don't think the needs have changed, we improved the secondary, but the majority is for 1 year. We continue to neglect LB, and the Dline is unchanged.

A lot of nice win now moves, but the next few drafts need to fill in the future.

For 6, I would prefer a trade-back. If not I would love Carter/Witherspoon/Anderson/Gonzalez.

18 Kancey/Branch/Torrence or if he falls way too far Bijon. Maybe Banks if we don't take CB at 6

A list of Guys I really like and would love to end up with.
Michael Wilson - He has double value as he has medical red flags so you know Holmes will be looking.
Clark Phillips
Zack Kuntz
Roschon Johnson
Desjuan Johnson
Jack Campbell

List of guys I hope we don't end up with
Darnell Washington
Jalin Hyatt
Hendon Hooker
Derrick Hall

The first 3 picks will be tricky. We can afford to gamble after our FA and finish last year so if Carter is there I think he is the pick.

Otherwise:
6 Witherspoon/Gonzales
18 Kancy/Torrence
Early rd 2 is always the guy that should have gone rd 1 but didnt.

Maybe best available TE in rd 2.

At six I want Skoronski.

Unless 5 QBs go, then obviously I want Anderson.

I really like him too but I just dont see us going that route too early. I would be OK with it for sure at 18. Probably should have added him there.

My first 4 for now is:

CB Witherspoon
TE Mayer
DT Mazi Smith
LB Simpson

Of course this is assuming Carter is gone already. As much as I would like to take an edge or RB, They are not high needs for us after our FA signings. Honestly I think the 2 best players in the draft are B Robinson and T Wilson but we are already solid there. I would love to have them but I just dont see us pulling the trigger.

A CB with the #6 pick?

Another 1st round TE?

I think you're just trying to set me off.

With Okudah being traded the CB position is looking like at least one of Detroit’s first two picks. It’s too bad that it puts the pressure on to get a CB that needs to perform as opposed to one that can be developed if the transition to the pros is too daunting in year one. At least the Lions get another pick as part of the trade.

I don't think any CB would be needed right away. Sutton and Moseley are on the outside, and Jacobs/Lucas/Harris/Gardener-Johnson can all fill in for nickle and dime. Most of those are 1 year deals, so they will for sure need to get going in year 2.

No NFL team goes through a 16 much less a 17 game season without any injuries at all. This does remove any margin we might have possibly had.

Pretty sure we are drafting Witherspoon now regardless of how the first 5 unfold. Holmes seems to do better with his late picks anyway.

This draft is so deep at CB that it would be negligent, IMHO, to pick one of them at 6. There is a good chance we could get the DE1 or DT1 (or OT1) on the board. You can't take a CB in that situation.

Good corners are going to be there at 18 or 48. Witherspoon could easily be there. Every down DL game changers like Tyree Wilson, Jalen Carter, and Will Anderson won't be there at 18.

Build the trenches.

If Anderson somehow fell to 6 I would be extremely thrilled. Carter would be a nice win. Wilson would easily be one of my least favorite options at 6. I would rather take Richardson, Witherspoon, Gonzalez, Skoronski, or Paris Johnson over Wilson. He is 100% bullrush with no passrush skills. He won't overpower all Oline like he has done in college. There is a chance that in a few years he builds up actual passrush skills, but you are basically taking a less athletic Travon Walker with Wilson

Also no way in hell Witherspoon would fall to 18. He won't even make it to 10.

Holmes could do good in my eyes using one of those 5th rounders on Andrew Vorhees if he falls that far. We can sit him until healthy next year.
Combine Injury is rough, I think Vorhees is a second round talent that a team will get a steal with.
