Really? They don't even compare imo. I haven't seen defensive basketball in the NBA since the Ben Wallace. NBA has went to all Offense.

I don't think I ever saw wide open layups back in the 80's.

You also didn't see as much quality 3 pt shooting as you did then, which opens up those driving lanes by drawing out the defense.

That's true, but in the current era of 0 defense being played in the NBA, would they then be considered the best Def. team of this era? They did have the best defense in the L this year, not just the playoffs, so much more then a sweep and a 2-0 lead in the second round.
This is a lazy, stupid take that dumdums have been saying for decades

Someone didn't watch any fast breaks from the Showtime Lakers...or any other teams

Terrible take.

Defense today is considerably better than the 80s

Scoring was actually on about the same level back then even though players weren’t nearly as skilled and the rules favored defense a lot more than they do today.
I had to look it up, you are right in the early to mid 80s per game scoring was around where it is now, although the last 2 years it has jumped up to levels not seen since the 1960s.

Lowest by far was the 1998-99 season (strike shortened might have been a factor)

Pretty fun to see the other trends over time:

Wolves are legit. It feels like baby MJ is going to get into the dance
Another in a long line of 'baby Jordan' labels. Remember Harold Miner? OJ Mayo?

To be fair Edwards looks more legit than them but I don't see it...he's too small for one thing. Kobe was Jordan 2.0

3s made per game jumped from 5 in 98/99 to 13 this past season.

His player comps coming out of college were to Mitchell and Wade. Wade makes some sense (more than MJ IMO). A better Jaylen Brown perhaps?

As others have pointed out, the 3 point shot being a much bigger factor than it has before is the biggest factor. It's not that there is 0 defense, it's that the 3 point line forces the defense to extend farther out and provides the offense more space to operate in.

To just make a blanket statement the there is 0 defense being played is pretty lazy. As someone else pointed out, defenses used to only have to extend out to 20 feet, now it has to extend out to 30 feet. That extra space makes it much more difficult to keep everyone covered. That's why you see things like teams defending well for 15-20 seconds and then give up a wide open 3. Eventually the defense just can't rotate and get out there fast enough.

I guess arguing about Darvin with you has relegated me to "someone else" status, lol.

The Celtics from that era were known as a physical, defense first team...they had a devastating fast break.

while he obviously ain’t jordan(nor will be). I think the comps are mostly flowing in now due to the stage he’s on(for all dem casuals) and swagger with a lot of jordan in his game. And then the biggest thing of all is MJ himself saying Ant is the one he sees as the closest comp.

Otherwise it’s just sports. Someone is always the next someone. Ant is just at least proving his extreme talent unlike someone like OJ Mayo

I am pretty sure I would think this whether it would benefit my Wolves or not....

But I think it is ridiculous that Jamal Murray wasnt suspended for at least one game. Hell I guess I dont even care if it was a penalty that carried over to the regular season next year. But he should get suspended for throwing shit onto the court. That is beyond ridiculous. $100k to a guy that makes his kind of money is peanuts. That is literally less than $300 to a guy like me.

Not sure Brown is a good comp either, pretty different styles. Wade is good, same height 6'4".

Heard this being discussed locally earlier and it makes sense. Minny is taking advantage of Murray not being a true ball handling point guard. He is having a lot of trouble getting the ball up the court. They need a secondary ball handler against this team and other than Jokic they really dont have one.
