i just dont see situations that fit.

if you are in a rebuild- you dont sign a 32 year old guard that wants a long term deal

many of the teams that might be interested- dont have cap room- and/or dont have an opening at Sg.

its just simple market economics.

We're in agreement here. But at the start of free agency, the money was there. The problem I'm pointing out is with Rich Paul. A normal agent goes out and starts gauging interest for their client, Paul hasn't done that as he was expecting to sign with the Cavs. Probable reason on why he didn't market his client around - Lebron needs him as a starting 2-guard to defend his title. But hey, Paul's making his money and Lebron's well onto his way to billionaire status. This is on JR given that he chose to have Clutch represent him - which doesn't have HIS best interests in mind.

If Tyler Johnson was getting 4 yr/50 million from Brooklyn, I'm pretty JR could have got a similar offer.

But he didn't get a similar offer or an offer at all. I can agree the Cavs probably should have offered a few million more a year out of the respect factor and winning a title but other than that there was still zero market for Smith and no one offering more.

how do you know he was not shopping offers?---- i mean- do you think his agent was taking phone calls and was like no--- we dont want to hear your offer- i realize you are falling over trying to give my client giant sums of cash- but we are gonna wait till the brinkofthe start of the season for the Cavs to improve their offer. lol...

Dude, Joe Johnson got more than the 10 million the Cavs are offering Smith.

Stop it.

Yeah, he's a better citizen, historically.

But, I'd say JR. Has much more left in the tank.

He should get Crawford money.

I have wondered the same.

Was there no market, did he let the market pass him by and only focused on staying in Ohio?

Or

Did his agent drop the ball, for the 2nd year in a row?

New agent, same result.

This points the blame directly on his own shoulders. He's relying on Lebron to get him paid without leaving Cleveland. Now he's waited himself into a corner with no real competition for his services. Teams have either capped themselves out or gone with other options.

He's going to end up taking less than he wanted...again.

there WAS NO market!!! not at anything close to 14-15 million. Name me 3-4 teams that would have had interest in Jr Smith at that number. Simply doesnt exist.

a bunch of teams that are going young would have no interest
teams with no or little cap space would have no interest
teams that already have big money committed to a SG would have no interest

who is left?

Yep like I said he just needs to eat it and take a 1 year deal. He waited way too long. The most another team can offer him currently is 9 mil from Boston.

Wiggy sells JR Smith more than anyone during the regular season. During the offseason, JR Smith's a scrub who doesn't deserve any of the money that some of these free agents are getting. You can't make this shit up.

Look it's a smart move on the Cavs. This points to how shitty of an agent Rich Paul is, or rather how he's not your typical agent as he's being driven with an agenda. And this all debunks that whole "Gilbert's willing to outspend everyone" theory blah blah blah blah.

Dude. Stop with your homerism.

You constantly sell up JR Smith as the best 3-pointer in the league, so critical to the Cavs, bullshit bullshit bullshit.

JR Smith is a middle-tier SG that should've got around what Jamaal Crawford's getting (who happens to be 36 and is a bench player). Hell, Joe Johnson got a nice contract for someone who fell off the map around the playoffs.

The Cavs have no other options at signing a SG of JR Smith's caliber. Lebron and Rich Paul fucked JR Smith out of his money.

If I'm JR, I drop Klutch and sign with a new agent then go to Boston. JR's already got his ring.

Yep. These playoffs JR was amazing, now he's a scrub according to Wiggy.

In preseason news, D'Angelo Russell is showing some very Curry-esque moments.

This kid is going to be a star!

brooklyn had no choice. they have no talent, and tons of cap space and have traded away as many of theird raft assets as possible...they decided to offer a deal to a young guy they thought might have upside. Though- i certainly queestion there sanity as nothing I have seen Johnson do leads me to believe he is anything more than a bench player--- but that is neither here nor there.

you think brooklyn - in the middle of a rebuild is gonna offer a huge deal to a SG who is over 30 and has proven that when he is in a bad losing situation things can get rough? not likely.

when you actually do your home work and try and find scenarios and situations where other teams might pursue Smith- you see a couple things- A. many of those teams already have SG under contract, B. many of those teams dont have cap room. and C. if you are not ready to compete- there is no need for Smith- which disqualifies about half the teams right from the get go.

Which teams out there do you actually think would give Smith the type of deal he is seeking?---

Atlantic Divison:
Celtics- maybe- but dont have the cap room
Knicks- he just left there
Tor- no need with demar
Nets- rebuild- no need
Sixers- rebuild- no need

Central:
Cavs- duh
Bulls- no need- Dwade at SG
Bucks- no need- Middleeton at SG
Pacers- Montae Ellis already
Pistons- have KCP who they drafted and developed

Southeast-
Hawks--- korver
hornets- batum
magic- drafted Hezonja
heat- rebuilding
wizards- beale

warriors- klay thompson
lakers- rebuilding
clippers- jj redick
suns- rebuilding
kings---- really? anyone think itsa good idea he goes to the Kings? lol

mavs- wesley mathews
rockets- Harden
grizz- no cap room
pels--- a possibility
spurs- seem like a spurs type player? have danny green on a long term deal anyway

nugz- rebuilding
twolves- wiggins- their future
thunder-oladipo just traded for
blazers- crabbe just got a huge deal
jazz- ??? signed Joe Johnson- and can u really see Jr Smith signing in UTAH? lol

i mean- out of all these teams - the only one i think makes any sense really is the Pelicans. Most teams are either A. rebuilding, or B. already have a starting SG and many of those SG's are guys on big time deals where you wouldnt just sign another guy- like a Wes MAthews in Dallas.

So rebuilding is a reason for not signing JR? And a lot of these teams signed guys in free agency like the Grizz and Bulls. Hell, Dwade was a couple of weeks after free agency opened up.

Question: Will you stop talking up JR Smith ad nauseam this season? Because you're trashing the shit out of him right now.

what does that have to do with the market for his services?

again- why would you pay a substantial amount more than the team that is closest to you in bidding would pay?
