Good job, Tolley. We'd really like it if you stayed around a while.

And they have what connection to the team? They're "fans" because it's "cool" to be a Red Sox fan. How many of them have ever set foot in Massachusetts? Not many, I'd wager. Fuck em. I hate "fans" like that.

You don't have to have lived anywhere in order to be considered a fan. It could, IMO doesn't, have a damn thing to do with cool.

I know people all over the country which cheer for teams for no good reason other than, "I've always liked them." Got a buddy in Memphis who is a giant Steeler fan, and only b/c this was a team he fell in love with as a kid all those many years ago.

Some folks grow up where there isn't a team in their hometown, just like me. Being from Nashville, I kind-of/sort-of cheered for the Braves in baseball b/c "they were the souths first team, and by far, closest to me."

We need everybody out there to be able to get outs, or the backend is going to need replacements by August

Didn't say you have to be from there, but there should be a connection. Just picking a team (especially the easy ones because of their popularity) is kind of lame.

I can see both sides, but tend to side more with Romeo on this one

I hate people from Texas that root for the Yankees bc they 27 World Series titles.... thats the easy way out in picking a team...

I never really lived anywhere that had a baseball team til I lived in Dallas so firm loyalties were hard to come by, so I went with what was available to watch, so til then I was often a Braves and Cubs "fan" bc they had the most games available for me to watch on cable

After I moved to Dallas, the Rangers were by far the easiest for me to follow and I've never looked back since

Exactly. The influx of "Royals fans" around here is obnoxious as well. Granted, KC is probably the next closest franchise after the Rangers, and I could see being a fan of theirs. But you didn't see the shirts and hats like you do now up until a year ago. Few things I respect less than a front running fan.

If your connection to a team is that is what you had available to watch and root for, fine. That's a connection. If you were born into fandom by your family, that's okay too. Any number of connections to a team are reasonable imo, and frankly I'm fairly lenient in that regard. But picking teams like the Yankees, Giants, Red Sox, and Cards because of the reasons you mentioned is lame.

The reality is there will always be front runners. Think about how easy it would be to get tickets to a home Rangers game against the Twins coming up. Very easy..... Go on stub hub, find tickets, pay, and you're good to go. Now, if the Rangers make the playoffs, look at how hard those tickets are to get. People sometimes camp for tickets, among other crazy things. Playoff tickets are hard to get because of the so called " fans" who live in the area of the team, don't watch any games, then gobble up the playoff tickets so they can take pictures on Facebook and brag to their friends about being at the game.

Rangers' Alex Claudio: Optioned to Triple-A

by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire
Claudio was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday.

In need of room for Chi Chi Gonzalez's recall for Monday's start, the Rangers decided to demote the left-handed Claudio for the time being. While his results this year in the majors haven't been spectacular (4.50 ERA, 1.50 WHIP over 18 innings), he does have a history of success at the major league level and could be a candidate for recall later in the season should the bullpen need a southpaw.
