well, he was definitely not a guy I wanted, considering the Saints are on a downhill slide lately, and he was the one who did the trade up for Brandin Cooks, which I thought was a terrible deal for New Orleans to make.

But whatever. Have to give him a chance and some time and let him make his own bed.

At least he will be in on the head coach decision. That's a plus. And very glad we didn't hire Ballard.

Yeah, not thrilled, but I was happily surprised to hear it was not Ballard as well.

It's tough from a fan standpoint with GM hires. We're not behind the scenes seeing what part they EXACTLY played in what. And we're not in the interview room hearing his plans for the future.

With coaches, at least you can measure what they did in numbers, for the most part. There's a DIRECT product of their work in place. A guy that was director of player personnel for two years… hard to say.

We'll see. Interested to see how he plays some of the key moves in this pivotal off-season.

Eastern Illinois has a weirdly fruitful pipeline to the NFL considering the stature of the school.

Yeah, I went to EIU for a year.

The stature of the school, is that it's place to go and get hammered for four years. While going to classes on the side when convenient.

But yeah, in all seriousness. Sean Payton, Romo, Garropolo, and some others. Now Pace. They've turned out some big names from that program. Odd.

No one said anything about not giving him a chance...........it seems like we hire gus that no one on this board has talked about........And the same will be of the head coach.

I`m betting it will be someone that has not been talked about.....that's all, nothing less.

So take it easy and take a chill pill for cry`in out loud.lol

It's the same reason none of the people on this board is a president of an NFL team. Lmfao

Tomorrow's Ryan Pace Press Conference: I can HOPE... they they ask good, real questions.
Philosophy on building a team, hiring a coach, past experiences with player development, what are you looking for in players/coaches...etc. Big Picture ideas.

NOT
What are you going to do with Cutler/Marshall? (IT DOES NOT MATTER IN the LONG RUN- and should be addressed later when coach is in place)
Do you think the weather in Chicago is a benefit to winning?
Can you tell us about your knowledge of Bear History.
Do you think Virginia isn't pissed off anymore?
Are you going to look to former players for more input?

?

Those would be good questions, but what I really want to know is what he thinks we should do with Cutler and Marshall.

:L:gaah:
IT doesn't need to be discussed tomorrow. Of course everyone needs to know that. And in due time we will all find out. I just don't think it's a time and place for that tomorrow.
What's he gonna say anyway? With less then 24 hours on the job?

"I'm going to discuss that with coaches and others in the building and come to decision as soon as we can" THAT's gonna be about it.

After all the bullshit we put up with, they go and hire some no name snot faced 25 yr old kid. If you look at what he did the last few years you have to scratch your head and say fuck this noise. This is bullshit. Sorry but I am not happy in the least. Sure we have to give him a shot. We gave Mel one. Fucking Bears I can't even defend HH anymore. Maybe he can get Mel to be HC. The thought of all those GB fans laughing at us again burns my ass. Fuck am I pissed.

Can someone come up with even one good reason for this hire. Show me how he deserves this. I'll gladly listen to reason. I'm searching and searching for info on this guy and can't wrap my head around the why. Nothing in his past says he deserves to even be near a football team.

we never hire anyone that any of us have ever heard of.............and the same as our new head coach............Most likely some off the wall candidate.

That's my point. I was in wait and see mode with Angelo and Emery. They both sucked. I'm not getting my hopes up with this guy.

At the very least the Bears went away from "Bears family" reports are that Pace had a REALLY good interview and he had a good explanation of the Big Picture for the Bears moving forward, with multiple draft plans. And not just how to fix next year. That's good.

(the dude is the same age as me! smh... what have I done with my life? I could be the GM of the Chicago Bears. LOL)

You should have applied. You might have been hired.

I've read positive things about Pace, and apparently a few teams had their eyes on him. Probably not a bad choice, but as in all things time will tell.

At 37 Pace is now the youngest GM in the NFL. (I'm only 36 btw, bday in march. ha)
As an EIU grad- What former NFL Head Coach also was an EIU grad? hmmmm. *shhhh, it's Shanahan*

Do you want a 37 year old first time GM to hire a first time HC? Adam Gase is also 37... how about that combo? The Youngest GM/Coach Duo. Would be kinda cool.

Would you prefer a coach with experience to balance out the youth and inexperience of Pace?
Ryan Pace did complete the NFL/Stanford Executive Education Program. Designed to help train NFL upper management. Something NFL teams have to send people to. So that's something.

:noidea:

Dude worked 13 years in the Saints' player personnel department.
Guy's got people league-wide saying good things.
As would most people just hired.

Obviously we won't know for two or three years whether he was a good choice.

well, fortunately for us in the peanut gallery, we are going to have a lot of big picture things to see how this guy does in the next few months.

1) Head coach
2) What to do about Cutler
3) what to do about Marshall
4) free agency
5) draft
6) what to do about Jeffery's extension
7) can he start dating a McCaskey relative, ideally a hot one

These are all big challenges. Let's see if he is up to it.
