I'd honestly say it's straight up delusional to think that Elway wasn't significantly better than Troy Aikman. Again, I'm not claiming Elway to be the GOAT or anything, but he was an all-time great. I'd definitely put him in the top 10.

I didnt say Aikman was as good as Elway, I said saying Elway could have won with that Cowboys teams means nothing, so would have 20 other QB's.

You seem to be ignoring the fact that I didn't just include Rice, but the fact that those Montana teams were stacked in general in San Fran.

What's the limit on good players a team can have before we start giving credit to the QB? Can a QB only be great if the rest of the team sucks? Comparing Elway to Montana always makes me laugh

Super Bowl History

Montana : 4 games 11 TD's 0 INT's : 4 - 0 record
Elway : 5 games 3 TD's 8 INT's : 2 - 3 record

One of these guys deserves to be called GOAT one deserves to be called overrated.

Elway had a really strong arm. He also ran all over the place. He was over-hyped when he came in. He was overhyped the whole time he played and then when he won the Superbowl, everybody that pre-proclaimed him as great, said: "see, he IS great" But he does not belong in a discussion of great QB's.

Now that said, This is a stupid post. We all disagree. Lots of passion about comments that result from a stupid post.

In a minute, I'll be called stupid also. Just remember, I watched Elway, I did not read a book of stats.....

I never compared Elway to Montana. All I was saying is, regardless of how good Montana was, I think we can agree that Montana was on better teams overall during his time in San Fran than Elway was in Denver. I'd still rank Montana comfortably above Elway; I was just making a point that the teams around them have to be taken into account as well. I'm positive that if you say, threw Jerry Rice on those same Denver teams, Elway would have been better than he turned out to be with the receivers he had.

He was on better teams because he made them better. Denver had a decent defense during most of Elway's years there. I think the 49ers biggest advantage over the Broncos aside from the QB was coaching.

Who would you take between John Elway and Fran Tarkenton, straight up regardless of teams/coaching?

This is off topic, but I just desperately wish Favre could have been 10, or even 5 years younger when the Vikings got him. I've been starving for a franchise QB for too long.

Favre didn't make his team much better.

He had the physical tools but not the mental ones.

I agree on Stafford. I don't think Romo is overrated because most know he isn't any good when the game matters. Ryan is a good QB not sure he's overrated because I don't ever hear his name mentioned in conversations regarding best QB in the league.

I agree that Favre would have been a lot better had he had more brains, but saying he didn't make his teams much better is simply not true. When he got to Green Bay, he took a team that was terrible in the 80's and most of the 70's and made them a lot better for much of his time there, including 2 Superbowl appearances and 1 win, granted the team also had Reggie White at the time. Favre also played well with the Jets until he got injured, and you can't tell me he didn't play a huge role in the success of the 2009 Vikings season. Take Favre away in place of Tarvaris Jackson that year, and that team is lucky to be 7-9 or 8-8 instead of 12-4 and making the NFC Championship game. So, I'll agree that Favre certainly had his flaws, but he is undoubtedly still an all-time great who generally made his teams better than most other QBs would have.

Jackson was never given a shot. He was better than Favre at that point.

He was given a shot and Favre throwing left handed was better than Tarvaris.

Jackson? Haha, ludicrous, I tell you. Favre is still better than Jackson to this very day.

LOL. Jackson had a hard time keeping his starting job over Charlie Whitehurst. So this guy, who was apparently better than Favre at one point, and went to what's basically the same offense that Wilson is running (the o-line was actually better than this one is) and struggled to keep his starting job over a career backup who really is awful isn't one of the QB's who you could plug in at Seattle if Wilson weren't there. My head is starting to hurt.

LOL the only time Jackson was better than Favre is when Favre is sleeping.

Check that. Favre doesnt give up turnovers when he is sleeping.
At no time was Jackson better than Favre LOL

I don't know, this time last year, the media was gushing over Ryan calling him elite and such. They talked about how "clutch" he was and leading his team on a SB run. As soon as he loses a couple of those weapons this season, he has been shown to be pretty average. Not all his fault, that whole team was over-rated last year but Ryan has been pretty over-rated from day one, imo.
