Poor effort. Howard ejected. Lakers were playing like being in the playoffs did not mean anything.

At least the Celtics gave their best. Howard is a lost cause. It will be a mistake keeping him with the Lakers.

ONLY the Facts.
i agree HEAT MY SHORTS--THE LAKER DYNASTY IS OVER,WHEN KOE COMES BACK IT WILL GET EVEN WORSE.
HE WLL NEVER PLAY AT THE CHAMPIONSHIP LEVEL.EVER AGAIN.
THE LAKERS NEED TO REBUILD THEIR TEAM IF THEY WANT TO WINA ANOTHER NBA Title.
WORDS and the TRUTH.

I find it amazing that people or should I say mostly Miami Heat fans all know exactly what next season will bring for the Lakers. Not one of us on here know what will conspire or how well any team will do next season. Hell, Golden State may be on a season long roll next season and win it all. There are way too many factors and anything can happen to any team at anytime. Let's all wait and see who goes where and how things pan out before saying, this team is done for years, that team can't be beat, these guys are the greatest.

I think if the Lakers keep Howard, they're looking at the same season next year.

He just does not have what it takes to win. NO inner drive to be great, no killer instinct, no maturity. If the Lakers give him a max deal they'll regret tying their future to a guy you can't win with without major help for him.

IMO max deals should go to true FRANCHISE players - Kobe, Lebron, Wade, etc. Howard is NOT that guy. I think the Lakers would be better off pursuing say Marc Gasol if they just HAVE to have a big guy in the paint. There are too many options and guys that will know their role and play their part.

I think the biggest problem with Howard is that he doesn't know his role, or what he wants that to be. In short, he's immature. Does he want to be a dominant center? A role player? The centerpiece of a title team? The alpha male, or the sidekick?

I honestly think he doesn't know.

Philosophically, they say concentrating on the present is key. For that, starbigd, I give you props.

Too bad it doesn't work so well in sports all the time.

Where were you on Marc Gasol before he won the DPOY award? Nowhere to be found. And where will you be next season when Dwight Howard wins it? Nowhere to be found.

Enjoy the moment.

I honestly hope they keep Howard because of the money he will add to their cap. I'd rather they keep him instead of possibly getting somebody like Brandon Jennings. Jennings with Kobe in the backcourt would be sick. They could then trade Nash which is something I would do. Of course I'd fire Dantoni as well, but that's just me.

 Jennings doesn't play D and they would need 2 balls to accommodate him and Kobe.

The biggest problem the Lakers had this season was scoring. They need the offense Jennings would provide. Kobe isn't getting any younger & his coming off a very difficult injury to recover from. Jennings can be the heir apparent to Kobe when he retires.

you find it amazing sports threads talk about the future and what could happen to teams in the league as far as one whole year in advance? you really find that amazing? is this the first day you have been on internet?

so we should wait until stuff happens before we talk about it? no thanks. it's called predictions. of course none of us have a crystal ball... no one ever claimed to have one.

Only if they don't like what you are saying.

Howard is going to leave the door open in L.A.. He would be a fool not to.
However, he already has one foot out that door. If his intententions were to stay, after what he went through last year, there would be no reason to just announce you plan to stay. What really can/will change in LA from now until FA starts?

He is much better suited for Dallas/Houston and if you take the 5th season of salary out of the equation, the money is almost identical if you factor in that Texas has no state tax (like Florida).

I'm not really concerned about his defensive stats.

Either you see my point or you don't.

I don't think Howard is MENTALLY ready to play or be the franchise player for LA.

Marc Gasol was just a suggestion of an alternative, but the fact is, you can't get him without making some sort of lopsided trade.

Serious question - can you SEE Howard beyond a set of stats? Did you actually WATCH him play at all? Are you telling me you're completely happy with his mental state and attitude while in LA?

Hell he won't even COMMIT to coming back right now! He needs "time"........as if playing there an entire year wasn't enough time? It's fairly clear he doesn't want to be there. He's proven when his heart is not in it he's not going to be an asset to you. Can you see any of this at all? Or is all you care about that he is "the best center in the league"?

You have to look at the trend. Golden State is up and coming. They have a streaky shooter who is on fire right now in Stephen Curry. They are winning against a tough Denver team. Their players are relatively healthy.

If the Lakers keep Howard and Kobe, then can you argue that this team has improved to championship contention next year? The Achilles tendon is the thickest and strongest tendon in the body. Kobe cannot, in any capacity play through the same minutes as he did this season. A more distal tear or one close to the calcaneus will be more difficult to rehabilitate. Kobe's game is derived by twisting drives and twisted take offs to a jump shot. That type of game strains the Achilles tendon. If it is true that he has beenplaying through pain such as if he had low grade plantar fasciitis or ankle problems, he would put more strain to his Achilles. The Laker team will have to play well without depending on Kobe. Kobe may have to deer facilitating to a good pointguard. If he wants to protect his Achilles, then he may be limited to spot up jump shots, which is already risky. But weaving through traffic or making twisted jumps will reinjure the Achilles tendon.

If the Lakers keep their core playersn then nect season is fairly predictable. Some bright spots in the roster include Goudelock and Clark. Bryant and Nash are too optimistic about contending for the Championship next year. Howard unfortunately does not have the same drive to win. He seems to be a perennial Robin to a Batman on any team.

Dallas is an enticing destination, especially if Howard is sold on Cuban's loyalty to franchise players. There is just something about Howard being disinterested if he isn't loved as the savior of the team or the number one option of the team. In othwr words, he won't even begin to lead the team with Kobe around. Dallas or Houston can provide that suitable environment for Howard to begin without the painful process of rebuilding. Money does not guarantee a player's worth in a championship run. The drive to secure a championship is evident if players sacrifice their money and roles. An honest assessment would be that there wasn't much deferral or sacrifices done between star players in thw Lakers' roster.

Starbigd, you have some legitimate points that are based in reality that describes Howard the way he has played at times this season with his injuries and the like. And BRS has some legitimate points on the way Howard has played as well. We have seen flashes of brilliance this year even with all of his issues. You both and others on this thread have mentioned that the Lakers really need to decide where they want to take the franchise and do they have enough evidence to include D12 in that vision?

Another alternative would be to decide to go into rebuilding mode without D12. Re-sign Pau to an extension and go with a guy already sitting on the bench. Bring in another coach because Don'tknowi has clearly demonstrated his lack of coaching acumen and use a guy like B. Shaw to develop young talent like Clark, Hill, Meeks, Blake, Morris, and yes Robert Sacre.

Sure, Sacre is no D12 but if you bring in say KAJ and have him work with Sacre like he did with Bynum, you develop the consistent big man everyone is looking for for a fraction of the cost. You play him with a Kobe and Pau and you build his offense and defense. When Sacre did play this year during one of those rashes of injuries, he played pretty well and I liked his energy and willingness to OWN the middle of the court, something D12 used to demonstrate night-in and night-out but has since become inconsistent at least this year.

So, like someone else stated, we are providing predictions with alot of ways to go and only the Lakers FO really knows which way they want to go. More should be happening as we get closer to the draft.

No....it was defense.

They finished 6th in the league on offense at 102.2pts per game

On defense they were 22nd in the league giving up 101 pts per game.

You are right Doors. we could score point but we could not stop younger faster backcourt players all season long. Shoot even Tony Parker much healthier just killed us.
