I can see it, if Adams joined the Seahawks as a Free Agent, or was drafted by the team and they did another contract for their own player.

I can see it when you trade for, and include a contract for.....say Khalil Mack.....an All Pro at a position that probably tilts games more than any except QB. A similar trade (two 1st rounders, a 3rd rounder) for Adams, without a new contract, at a position that is regarded in a far less manner like running backs and interior OL? Plus the Seahawks gave up on Bradley McDougald. He's not Adams, I get that, but he is an above average player, and relatively cheap.

McDougald is above league replacement but certainly not a difference maker. And he's 30 years old.

I honestly don't see why a contract extension right now is a priority. They have 2 more years and Adams agreed to play out this season. Why do they need to get him a new contract right now?

Adams is not a typical safety. His pass rush and coverage ability make him a unique player.

Sure, sure, but I don't think you want it to be his focus. Then again, playing for the Hawks is a little different than playing for the Jets. Wasn't a whole lot to look forward to last year for Adams far as postseason so maybe going for the record was motivation of sorts. With the Seahawks he should have that opportunity. He's an intriguing player no question and I heard Carroll talking about him and where they've been drafting at in the 1st rd of late. They didn't have a chance to acquire a player of skills. Carroll sounded hype for sure.

Carroll is probably the best coach in football when it comes to maximizing the abilities of secondary players. I'm curious to see what he will be able to do with Adams. They are most likely going to start using Cover-3 and Cover-1 defenses a lot more and have Adams float around a lot around the line.

Sure you're not obsessed with me?

Dude you just queried every post of mine from circa 2015.

I honestly couldn't care less about you. I provided a link to all of your posts related that talked about the Seahawks. It's way more than that but it gives you an idea.

Whenever there is a thread about the Seahawks in the NFL general forum, you are always one of the most frequent posters, and this thread is no exception. And you are always focused on the absolutely most negative argument you can come up with. Like arguing that this trade is similar to the Herschell Walker trade which is some mind numbingly dumb.

What Adams says now, in regards to him playing this year under his contract, doesn't mean much to me. Again...this is the same Adams that said about 6 months ago, that he wanted to be a 'Jet for life.' Seems to me this is all about money, and now he basically has the team up against the wall.

He's already publicly said that he is focused on playing right now. Maybe he will change his tune but that is just an assumption. I'm sure he will expect a deal next year.

I love the trade from the Jets' perspective. They were going to lose this guy no matter what, and they end up getting 2 first round picks. All the risk is on the Seahawks. Maybe something happens and the Seahawks struggle the next two seasons, making those picks worth even more. Maybe Adams holds out again and doesn't sign long term. But if they win the SB this year and Adams is a key contributor, then you've gotta say it was worth it.

Risk is on the Seahawks? How... they are getting a sure fire all pro once in a generation talent at a position that Carroll heavily utilizes and knows how to run (given his coaching experience and prior experience with the LOB). Risk on resigning? Sure... that's a risk with ANY team. Either way they have him for 2 more years now... and he'll regardless play in 2021 because CONTRACT (whether Seattle or a free agent). If he signs with someone else the 3rd we traded is negated because that'll easily be returned as compensatory 3rd (late but likely would've been anyway).

The risk is all on the Jets.

Are the Jets going to find a once in a generation safety with LIKELY two LATE first round picks, one of which will be after the NCAA probably doesn't even play this year? HIGHLY doubtful. Not to mention I have to wonder how many Jets players are like, "Dude F this." after they just traded away their best player.

"But he's a safety LOLOLOL." Yah... and basically every team that's won the Super Bowl recently (recently as in basically the last decade) had an elite if not borderline one.

Maybe something happens and the Seahawks struggle the next two seasons, making those picks worth even more.
Seattle has a chance to win now... go try and claim it... vs. the Jets kicking the can down the road 'hoping' they get the right draft pick and Wilson gets injured (which is the only way those picks will be high). That sounds like a fun team to watch.

Not to mention the Jets trade away every first rounder they select it seems (I'm sure Darnold is on the block now with the extra ammo and the 'seeing ghosts' and Gase is prob. in his last year. New regimes mean new QBs). Meanwhile all of Seattle's first round selections GENERALLY suck because they always make the playoffs and pick late - which the Jets will do.

He's Kam Chancellor with better coverage skills.

His value is a little higher on the Seahawks because when you look at the Rams and 9ers they are going to want to run the ball and run it a lot.

Really I think that's why he was coveted so much by the Hawks because they know how much they are going to see the run so they'll want a guy they can put in the box and help stuff it.

Also he's probably their second best pass rusher behind Bruce Irvin.

I agree with the division being one of the reasons as the Rams/Cards will continue to be heavy passing teams and the Cardinals like to spread whereas the Rams like a lot of diff. personnel packages... all of which Jamal can deal with.

And nobody in that division in 2019 could deal with George Kittle. As of NOW because of the trade, the only team in the division that should be able to... is Seattle.

The risk isn't on the Jets. The Jets were going to lose this guy no matter what. Sure, they can miss with those picks or they can come out poorly if they trade those picks, but the bottom line is that they got pretty good draft capital for a player who was intent on not playing another down for them.

Then that's on them for a HORRIBLE front office and their horrible selection of a coach that has no business in the NFL. Because of that I have ZERO faith they'll do fuck all with those picks (again if they are mid-late... pretty decent chance to hit if you're drafting top 10 let alone close to top 5.. although with COVID 2021 draft is a COMPLETE crap shoot).

True. It's hard to feel confident in Gase and the front office. Perhaps they clean house after this season and give someone else a chance to make these picks and to develop these players. But to me, the important thing for the Jets right now is that they got a pretty good return for a player who they had already lost.

How do you know this? His main problem was with Gase and Gase is likely on his last leg and may not even make it through the season. Adams still has two years left on his contract and once Gase is gone could/may decide all is good. Especially if the Jets were willing to work with him and his contract. I think saying he was gone no matter what is hyperbole.
